810 Munchies Community Dinner Number Seven Heads Into The Streets Of Flint
FLINT, Michigan. Community dinner number seven from 810 Munchies is going mobile this Saturday as the restaurant takes its monthly giveaway directly into the streets of Flint instead of hosting it inside the restaurant.
After serving the first six community dinners at the restaurant, owner Steve Brewer said the team wanted to do something different this month by bringing meals directly to people throughout the city.
Volunteers will be handing out brown bag lunches containing ham and cheese sandwiches, turkey and cheese sandwiches, chips, pudding cups, and bottled water from multiple locations around Flint.
One vehicle is expected to park downtown near the 68th District Court. Another will be near Carriagetown Ministries, while a third location is planned near Robert T. Longway Boulevard and Saginaw Street around the Center of Hope and Michigan Works area.
Brewer said the change helps the restaurant get out into the community more while also making things easier during a period of short staffing while Jose remains in New Mexico.
The Flint Talk staff is also sending prayers to Jose and his family in New Mexico during this difficult time.
“This is our seventh one that we’ve done out in the real world,” Brewer said during a Facebook Live video. “Just come out and you guys are going to have to come and see us.”
Since opening in September of last year inside the Dort Mall, 810 Munchies has quickly built a reputation for creating a welcoming environment for special needs families and others in the community who often feel overlooked in traditional restaurant settings. Along with affordable food, the restaurant has become known for its community outreach and monthly dinners helping Flint residents.
Community dinners are usually held after 12 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month, but organizers are asking people to check the 810 Munchies Facebook page for updated details because this month’s event is different from previous dinners and will be taking place out in the community at multiple locations across Flint instead of at the restaurant.
810 Munchies is located inside Dort Mall at G3530 S. Dort Highway in Flint. For more information, call (810) 820 8257 or visit 810munchies.com.
The restaurant says its mission remains simple: continue serving Flint and helping people one meal at a time.
What do you think about 810 Munchies bringing its community dinners directly into Flint neighborhoods instead of keeping them at the restaurant?
