Michigan Spent Over $1 Billion on Whitmer’s Climate Plan, Yet Canadian Wildfire Smoke Is Still Choking the State

LANSING, Mich. – Michigan has spent more than $1 billion on climate, clean-energy and environmental programs under Governor Gretchen Whitmer, yet residents are once again being told to stay indoors because Canadian wildfire smoke has made the air unsafe to breathe.

Whitmer calls Michigan a “climate action leader.” But after all that spending, families are still waking up to hazy skies, air-quality alerts and warnings to keep children, seniors and people with health problems inside.

The MI Healthy Climate Plan pours money into electric vehicles, renewable energy, emissions reductions and other climate programs. None of it can stop Canada from sending wildfire smoke across the border and into Michigan.

Taxpayers were promised cleaner air and climate leadership. What they are getting is another summer of smoke.

Michigan families are paying for expensive climate programs while being told not to open their windows, exercise outside or let their children play outdoors.

Whitmer can keep calling Michigan a climate leader, but taxpayers deserve to know what more than $1 billion has actually accomplished when the air is still dangerous to breathe.

How much more money will Michigan spend before state leaders admit they cannot control the smoke coming from Canada?
