FLINT, MI -- A Flint man faces time in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to obtaining nearly 700 grams of cocaine through UPS.
Jequez Dequinn Barnett pleaded guilty Tuesday, June 25, in Flint U.S. District Court to possession with intent to distribute more than a half-kilogram of cocaine. The plea agreement includes a sentencing guideline range of 5 years, 10 months to 7 years, 3 months in federal prison.
Barnett was arrested after Flint Area Narcotics Group officers conducted a controlled delivery of a UPS package containing cocaine July 16, 2012, according to court records.
The package was opened, found to contain 688 grams of cocaine and repackaged by FANG authorities, records show. It was delivered to Barnett's home on Bonbright Street in Flint.
Barnett immediately sent a text message stating, "Da box is here!!!!," after the delivery and was arrested a short time later while later while speaking on the phone, according to court records.
Records show Barnett was previously convicted of carrying a concealed weapon in 2003 and delivery of less than 50 grams of cocaine in 2009.
Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12. |

From what I understand, the section of Marvin between Gillespie and Van Wagoner has been a drug hotspot for possibly decades. They sell cocaine and now heroin.
Since much of the territory has been demolished, three houses in the middle of the 3600 block serve as the main hot spot. Two are abandoned ad covered with graffiti. When they are flush with drugs, there may be guys on bikes at each end of this section of street. There have been two dealers, one at each end, operating like a quick stop drive through. The house on the northwest side Gillespie and Marvin seems to operate as a lookout house.
Attempts have been ongoing to stop this operation. |
