Mickeba sez! It's so sad that Roger is gone. Not cuz he was a great guy, I'm sure his family thought so, on some level, but that's not why I'm sad. I'm sad that Roger is gone, and isn't witnessing the dismantling of his precious GM, the company he launched toward ruin! Watching the saga of the bailouts play out has been pretty instructive. We see the financial services companies, which have received far more than the big 3 even asked for, or I'm sure, could have dreamed of asking for, just show up on the hill and walk away with big money, little or no questions asked. Rick Wagoner and his cronies at Ford and Chrysler got put through the ringer, of course Wagoner got canned! Perhaps he should have been canned, he did do a pretty sorry job at GM. Of course the game was rigged against him, by the shenanigans of Roger and Stempel and the others. His incompetence mattered little. What is sad in all this is that the automobile industry, our industry, is going down, most certainly, while the insurance companies and banking groups are given so much, with so little oversight required. Our government should do all it takes to save this industry, as they should do all it takes to save and restore the S.S. United States, rusting and dying in Philadelphia harbor. Both are American treasures deserving of care, but sadly, both will most likely disappear. Should GM and Chrysler, and eventually Ford restructure? Abslolutely! They need to do business differently. For too long, the idea of innovation in the American car industry meant adding video games to a car, or a dvd player. Not, how to make the best hybrid vehicles. Or how to make the best vehicles. They played for fluff and are now taking the gaspipe. It is truly the destruction of our country, and it's pretty sad to see.

GM started downhill when the car guys at the top were replaced with bean counters.
