Ward Connerly and Jennifer Gratz did not show up at the Flint public affairs debate forum. This was to be non-partisan two sided debate. Well publicized debate. The room was packed!
I was late and left early. Had to pick up my daughter.
I attended the flint school board sub-committee on policy at 6 pm. Great discussion on fingerprinting and background checks. I did not take notes but rest assured this policy is being updated to cover all who come in contact with children. Outside contractors prior to being hired must show proof of fingerprints, background checks nationwide etc. at their cost.
I was worried the pendulum would swing so far as to impact volunteers, parents on field trips etc. $54.background check to chaperone would be unreasonable. There is a simple no cost way for schools to do a vounteer check for occasional parent involvement that covers those that will not be alone with children. Still safety of children is first.
The meeting was extremely beneficial.
