Adam, economics is no more a science than theology - so 'believe' away. And while your at it, ask your Geologists (actual scientists (& not on the corporate dole)) what they think we should do about fossil fuel addiction. I doubt they'd say open a methadone clinic at the north pole.

The fact of the matter is that any model for predicting reality and developing policy to improve that reality (which is what neoclassical economics claims to do) that ignores such basic realities (costs) as air quality, water quality, climate change, Third World working conditions, human rights, human life, animal life, plant life, etc. is obnoxious science that has no business determining how policy decisions should be made. True economics is about people and the planet. Not portfolios and profits.

I'd much rather see that delusional 'economy' crash and burn than the biosphere.

As a staunch extreme conservative with libertarian leanings we should move towards electric cars and perhaps hemp fueled vehicles or whatever the government will allow us to do. Until that time I think we should use what limited economcs we are allowed to use to get us through.

If the biosphere is going to crash and burn I think it would be good if people were at least still alive to see it.

I'm not sure if you have a "real" job but for those of us that are struggling to support the welfare-warfare state we live in gas prices hinder our ability to support the non-working americans as well as government employees.

To suggest that we can completely change modern society overnight seems a bit unrealistic to me unless things like mass starvation is not a concern for you but currently our state and our nation do seem to be more supportive of the mass starvation strategy.

Jobs like farming, manufacturing, construction, marketing, customer service etc. i.e. things necessary for a society to function.

"non real" would be things like welfare employment although I do admit there are major gray areas in between but to really cut into government to give people more freedom you need to look at some of the non-essential jobs the government "provides" and also look at the jobs the government takes away. When you move away from socialism we would be more efficient and the need for some non-profit jobs would also decrease.

In the real world though we are heavily socialized and can not go to a truly capitialistic society anytime soon.

Couple of questions.

Are Adam and Adam Ford the same person? If so why the two screen names?

Why do some of the quotes inlude schreef: ? Is that some jargon that I don't know?

Thanks

It appears also that I do not have a real job, or maybe I'm in the "gray area" eihter way I am disheartened.

(Marketing? Necesary for the society to function? Where would we be without the "Where's the Beef" lady?)

I have no idea why the schreef thing.

What kind of job do you have?

Marketing/sales is key to business. Without selling a product or service you will not be in business.

I would classify all "private sector" jobs as "real jobs" Without these "real jobs" our socity would collapse.

I am a public school educator. "Highly qualified" mind you.

I am aware of what marketing is. It was kind of a joke.
