Every night was fight night at Reese Jones. |

Just a quick reminder that their was a time when being a shoprat was distainful to many folks. I can remember in highschool some educators making less than complimentary remarks pertaining to those who made their living "in the shop" . Both my parents worked for GM by the way with my dad being a supervisor. Jump ahead a few years and I remember the wife of the superintendent of schools where my parents resided who were my parents neighbors commenting how unfair it was that factory workers like myself were actually being paid better and had better benefits than her ms degreed hubby. Well "duh" GM produces a high profit product and shares that profit with its employees, the super produces a no for profit product and is compensated by how many tax dollars the folks are willing to give up. Perhaps an MS engineering degree would have been a better choice if he hoped to get rich. By the way my parents had over 35 years of happy retirement before they passed away, cant hardly beat that deal. I have friends and family who all had an opportunity to work in the shop same as my wife and I but chose for what ever reason not to. Now they find themselves reaching retirement age with little hope of ever actually quitting work because of lack of benefits. They may leave the job they now have but plan on finding another "just to keep busy" OK. But one thing about it they were never "shoprats." An interesting side note Old fat boy Mike Moore got hired by Buick but quit before actually having to rub elbows with those despicable shoprats. By the way I agree we gained huge benefits having the UAW represent us I just wish they would quit trying to make the rank and file believe that every liberal Dem that runs for anything deserve our unquestioning loyalty. |

I understand GM retirees must get prescriptions filled through Med-Co and Med-Co provides absolutely no
Patient Information
for the drugs they are dispensing. This infuriates me when I see seniors taking 19 different pills a day. That many foreign chemicals in a body is going to kill them quicker than any illness they think they're taking it for. There should be a federal law prohibiting the dispensing of drugs without printed patient information. |

When I get a new prescription from Medco, there's a sheet packed with it containing information about the drug. The 19 pills a day can be the result of not having ONE Doctor overseeing treatment. This happened to my mother in law when she was living in Florida. She was going to a cardiologist, a urologist, an orthopedic guy, and her family MD. There was NO coordination between them. When she moved back here, she was in pretty bad shape. We got her to her original family Doctor and he had a fit! Many medications were working against each other, and he cut them out. He cut out 1/2 of her medications, and now she's doing great. She still sees multiple doctors, but her family MD gets information from them and coordinates treatment, something that wasn't happening in Florida. |
