On the ch12 news at 5, they said that one of the reasons Ayres retired was "The childish attitude of a majority of the City Council". Not applying for the grant to change the traffic signals to make 2 way streets downtown. There was also a mention, if I heard correctly, of a 7 MILLION dollar grant for sidewalk replacement. That would be enough to replace every sidewalk in the city!
At the council meeting last night, where the council voted for the downtown grant, they also had to reprogram CDBG monies from 2005. Over $200,000 that was allocated in 2005 for sidewalks but never spent. They also had to reprogram over $400,000 from 2006 for sidewalks that was never spent.
Anyone else find it odd that we have over $600,000 sitting in an account for sidewalks and it was never spent? |

It's the same here; the old ones are still in pretty good shape.
Another good one....... When I had our lot surveyed to put up a fence, the drawing the surveyor worked from was so old the City limits were Dupont street! I'm 3 blocks west of Dupont & was shown as Flint Township. Now it gets good... Our homeowners insurance has showed us in the Township for years. They just caught their mistake, and our premiums will be $100.00 per year higher now. Oh, well, it'll be 15 years before they're even. |
