Mayor Williamson is going to use his own money to pay residents up to $20 to bring trash to his waste transfer station on S. Grand Traverse. It's part of his campaign to deal with neighborhood blight.

"Our goal is to get the city cleaned up,"Mayor Williamson said. "I'm trying to start an example and I hope everyone follows suit."
Here's how it will work: Residents dropping off waste will draw from sealed envelopes to find out how much they get - anywhere from $1 to $20. The incentive will begin next week and run through early September.

The transfer station, south of 12th Street at 2420 S. Grand Traverse, also will now accept everything except hazardous waste, Williamson said. The mayor hopes people start bringing in construction materials, now routinely dumped in vacant lots across the city.

The yard's hours are 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.
