Whitmer’s Tax Spree Is Costing Your Family Up to $900 a Year While She Refuses to Give You a Break at the Pump
FLINT, MI — Gas prices are climbing again, but while other states are giving drivers temporary tax relief, Michigan families are still paying some of the highest fuel related costs in the country. Critics say Lansing continues piling new taxes, fees, and higher costs onto working families already struggling with inflation.
Michigan drivers are now locked into a 52.4 cent per gallon gas tax after the state replaced the previous fuel tax structure earlier this year. Critics argue families ended up paying even more during lower gas prices because the new flat tax never goes down.
Electric vehicle owners were also hit with major registration fee increases, giving Michigan some of the highest EV fees in the nation. Marijuana consumers are seeing higher prices after a new wholesale marijuana tax was added into the road funding plan, while businesses across the state continue warning they are passing rising costs directly onto consumers.
Critics also point to Michigan’s ongoing energy battles and business tax changes, arguing the uncertainty and added costs are making everyday life more expensive for families across the state.
When everything is added together, critics estimate many Michigan families are paying between $450 and $900 more every year because of higher taxes, rising fees, and increased costs tied to decisions coming out of Lansing.
For many frustrated residents, the question remains the same: if Michigan families are paying more than ever, where is the relief?
