15 Million Claim Filed Through New Federal Fund For J6ers By Flint Resident Isaac Thomas

FLINT, MI — Flint resident Isaac Anthony Thomas says his attorney, Steven Metcalf, filed a $15.1 million federal claim Monday tied to Thomas’ Jan. 6 prosecution, saying federal investigators and prosecutors failed to turn over evidence that could have helped his defense.

Thomas was charged in connection with the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. His claim argues that the case damaged his life and was handled unfairly. Those claims have not been proven in court.

Thomas said the prosecution caused damage to his life that money cannot fully repair. He also said voters rejected what he described as the Biden administration’s use of fear, division, and government weaponization when President Trump returned to office.

Thomas is also calling on President Trump’s Department of Justice to investigate and prosecute officers he believes were responsible for the deaths of unarmed protesters on Jan. 6.

The filing puts a Flint resident into the national fight over Jan. 6 prosecutions, federal accountability, and whether people who say they were politically targeted should receive compensation.

The Anti Weaponization Fund was created through President Trump’s settlement with the IRS over the leak of his tax records. The money is supposed to be used to review claims, issue formal apologies, and provide payments to people who say they were wrongly targeted by federal agencies or politically motivated prosecutions. The $1.776 billion fund is currently being held up in federal court in Virginia, where a judge has temporarily blocked the government from moving forward with transfers or payouts while legal challenges continue. The case could still be challenged in a higher court.

Should J6ers be allowed to seek federal compensation if they claim evidence was withheld or the justice system was used against them politically?
