At least two areas in the north end of Flint are dealing with turf wars. Problem is neither one is in an area that Cease Fire, the alleged "future savior" o Flint deals with.
And who are these white boys in powder blue roaming the streets near Dupont and Welch? They come in large groups, sometimes as early as 6:30 a.m., andd just walk the streets. Are they the cause of the recent spat o gunfire in this area? |

| Not really a turf war, but we've got a war going on here over a supposedly stolen X-box. 8 rounds of Ak & 2 40cal rounds fired into 3 cars and a house Friday afternoon. Police came buy & left right after determining nobody was hit, so I collected the empties as they didn't seem interested. There is one 40cal misfire - primer dented, but bullet still in thee case. Brand is Tula - Russian made & notorious for being cheap & somewhat unreliable. |

The federal government is doing their part and they have implemented numerous strategies. But Cease Fire in Flint doesn't seem to get off the ground. Is that because no money is going to the FACT group to pay for violence interrupters? This program depends on dollars and the success or lack of success seems to depend on dollars.
However, many of the Cease Fire programs are being re-evaluated and the conclusion is being given the credit when many criminal justice projects were simultaneously being implemented. These federal and local initiatives got no credit for their success.

The CeaseFire Flint Public Safety movement is a coordinated, community strategy to aggressively address crime and criminals in the City of Flint;

CeaseFire Flint relies on strong partnerships among law enforcement agencies, social service providers, government, faith leaders, and the community at large for its success;
How Does the CeaseFire Flint Movement Work?
It employs a strategy of focused deterrence and strong enforcement with coordinated opportunities for some offenders;
The goal is to offer a lifeline through positive intervention services coordinated by many agencies networking together;
It is the belief of those involved in the Flint CeaseFire movement that changing lives is how we ultimately make the community safer;
CeaseFire Flint offers life changing opportunities for offenders (housing, employment, training), who meet the criteria, who are receptive to the benefits of this kind of intervention;
Why CeaseFire?
We can’t continue to do the same things and expect different results;
CeaseFire Flint is a new approach to addressing public safety concerns in the community;
This model coupled with other public safety strategies is a proven success in the reduction of crime;
The CeaseFire Model along with the Drug Market Intervention (DMI) program was implemented in High Point, North Carolina, a City similar to Flint. That community saw a more than 40 percent reduction in crime over a
ten year period;
We are expecting to achieve similar results here;
Who is A Part of This Effort?
It is being led by the Mayor and Chief Lock in concert with Flint Area Congregations Together (FACT), the law enforcement community including the U.S. Justice Department, 68th District Court Judges, and local social service providers;

WEST PAD could be in trouble!
Much has happened in West Pad territoty since Hugh Jermaine Lawler was murdered on Grace and Dupont in August of 2009. West Pad was associated with rappers, but several of the leaders have been sent to prison . Now this area is plagued with gunfire. Residents in this area from Welch north past West Paterson say they often have to sleep on the floor because of the ongoing gunshots. They are also upset that they don't hear their 911 calls on the police scanners and believe they are being ignored as a neighborhood. |

| Also areas of the 3rd ward is having turf issues. Some say it is like the east side of Saginaw Street is fighting the west side of Saginaw street. I hear the turf war is keeping Nolden wearing running shoes as he battles to put out these gang fires in his ward. Good Luck Bryant! |

I just got reminded-rather testily I might add-that many of these calls go to the county 911 system and because of the difference in systems, Flint cannot always hear these calls.
Don't go blaming Williamson, as some are want to do, because the split occurred during Stanley and the funding for Flint's upgrade is not, and has not, there. Some upgrades and a patch have been done piecemeal, but the cost of upgrading to the 800 megahertz system is astronmomical. |
