Maybe not so much enthralled with Walling as not impressed by the alternatives. |

Some interesting conclusions from those numbers: I was shocked to see how poorly Pfeiffer did - Im even more shocked that Eric Mays beat out 3 other candidates - that's scary.
So - is the Walling/Buchanan race going to follow racial lines like we have seen so often in the past? |

Walling had 48% of the vote. Whites only represent 40 to 45% of the population in Flint, so obviously Walling grabbed some black votes. And Smith is white, so I think he must have grabbed some black votes as well. Walling will win with at least 55% of the total vote. |

Walling's 48% shows voters are unhappy with him and that he has a lot of convincing to do to get 55% of the vote in November. |

What Walling got was 48% of those who voted Tuesday...about 10-15% of the registered voters in Flint. You would have to analyze the precinct voting to reach the conclusion of how many black votes Walling got. He could have gotten heavy black support or none at all.
I'm still predicting that Walling will make a run at Kildee's congressional seat next year. If he is still Mayor he will have a free shot with nothing to lose, because he will still be mayor if he doesn't win the Congressional seat If Buchanan wins then Walling will need a job and he'll run to avoid haveing to apply for unemployment. |

Cornbread.....I too was shocked to see how poorly Pfeiffer did. I had a chat with him today and he is disappointed but very humble and has written a nice letter of praise to each candidate for the strengths they have and for their contributions to Flint. . Impressive guy. |

Good post! I think you're right about Walling making a run for Kildee's seat. I also had to smile at your comment "If he is still Mayor he will have a free shot with nothing to lose," because if you'll remember, City Council wouldn't approve Williamson's appointment of Buchanan unless and until he resigned as a City Council member. It was a real confrontation in council chambers. I'm curious to know who Buchanan might have in mind for appointments should he win. Should he make it known, it could have a bearing on the outcome of the election given the animosity some have toward Eason and Donna Poplar. |

00sl2 Sometimes it is good strategy to make known in advance your prospective appointments....expecially if it appears that you are not joining the "good ol' boys network" and appoint people who have good non-controversial standing in the community. But, alas, most times candidates cannot break away from appointing the people who helped get them where they are...regardless of quealifications. |
