The South Side Task Force caught Rene (Lucky) Williams who is a person of interest in the slaying of prominent attorney C Frederick Robinson.
This task force is extremely effective when they are allowed to perform the duties detailed for them in the Federal grant they work under.
A discussion with MSU officials studying the effectiveness of the Flint Police Department noted that officers cannot be dedicated to one area when they are constantly being sent from one end of town to another. |

So Webs you think they should take less 911 calls so they have time to do more "task force" type of stuff?
I think we should prioritize 911 calls but I also think we should prioritize police above things like the Ombudsman and civil service. |

Adam-many communities allow an alternate method of reporting for victims of crimes that are considered cold-no evidence, no witnesses, not a crime in progress and the victim merely wants a complaint number. Right now the police are not getting back to citizens in a timely fashion and sometimes up to 3 days late. These crimes may not be solved but there may be a way to map their frequency in an area and denote a pattern if they can be reported sooner.
Dave- I agree but the task force is frequently sent to the north end and even Hurley Hospital. What the task force has going for them is they have an established and reliable information base. This takes time working in an area and building a rapport with the citizens.
The rap artists have even made one of the officers the subject of a rap song. |
