A few weeks ago, the Journal had an article about a developer that wanted to buy the school building & turn it into a senior citizen's home. It looks more doubtful every day that this might actually happen. Since the article, I've heard numerous scanner calls about people inside the building stripping it of metal. One call was this past Tuesday; it was a general call, since no cars were available to answer it.
Today, I drove past the building & noticed that all the first floor windows on the West side of the building are gone. I can only speculate on what the inside of the building looks like. I'm sure it's a mess. Hopefully I won't be hearing a call for a fire there.

Pushing buttons sure can be fun.

Paddle faster, I hear banjos.

Councilman Nolden has discussed the damsge at the old martin School where the thieves even tried to steal the marble.

Cody school has been vandalized, used for dog fighting and some kind of ritual rites. It has been set on fire at least twice.

Cook School was vandalized for metal when it was leased out to a local church.

The Detroit newspapers once did a story about these kinds of public landmarks that have been left open and vacant to become community eyesores.

Is there a solution? As long as there is a market for stolen metal, these thieves will continue their plunder. Look at the old Buick complex and the huge amounts of money made before the thieves got caught.
