Captain at Genesee County
Sheriff's Department Says
He Wants to be Flint Mayor

Terence Green made it official Thursday night that he wants to be Flint's next mayor. Green is a captain with the Genesee County Sheriff's Department. He made it official about his intentions of running for mayor while speaking to the South Side Crime Watch meeting at Lincoln Park Baptist Church on Fenton Road.

Green made some brief remarks at the start of the meeting and left before Flint City Councilman Scott Kincaid was bombarded with questions from angry residents and three businessmen who are on the Flint Area Chamber of Commerce's newly-formed Executive Board. A related story is published on today's front page of the Local News Section .

Green hired into the office of the Genesee County Sheriff's Department in April of 1992 as a corrections deputy. He was promoted in October 1994 to the rank of Paramedic Deputy and was promoted in July of 1999 to the rank of Sergeant with multiple assignments that specifically included working as a narcotics investigator. He was assigned in 2000 to work with the Flint Area Narcotics Group (FANG) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Green went to Sheriff Robert Pickell's drug team known as The POSSE in 2001 and was then promoted as the lieutenant in charge of the organization in 2004.

During his 10-year assignment as an undercover narcotic investigator, Captain Green received numerous awards for investigations that led to the arrests of high level drug dealers, the seizures of large quantities of cocaine and other controlled substances. He has received an officer’s highest honor by getting the Medal of Valor and the Sheriff’s Commendation Award.

Green was promoted to the rank of captain last year and was placed in charge of the Paramedic Division and Office of Emergency Management.

Green is eligible to retire in April and campaign full-time until the August primary. The top two vote getters in August move on to the general election in November.

Green became the second high profile candidate to enter the race Thursday. A local businessman threw his hat into the ring earlier in the day by making his annoucement on the Ryan Eashoo Show still available by replay on FlintTalkRadio.com. Seven others took out petitions on Monday, which was the first day candidates could do so. Candidates have until May to collect sufficient signatures to get their names on the ballot for the August primary.
