President of Flint Police officers union says department was stretched thin on Monday night
Published: Wednesday, October 13, 2010, 10:22 AM Updated: Wednesday, October 13, 2010, 10:22 AM
David Harris | Flint Journal
FLINT, Michigan — The president of the Flint Police officers union said the department was stretched thin on Monday night when there were three shootings, including one fatal, in less than an hour.

Union president Keith Speer said there were simply not enough officers on duty to handle the influx of shootings.

"You have officers that are tied up on a particualr scene," Speer said. "You can't just pull off one to go to another (crime scene)."

The first shooting was at 10:08 p.m. on Rankin Street near Martin Luther King, where two people were shot. The victims' injuries were minor.

Then about 30 minutes later and about 2 miles northwest, a second shooting took place at Kermit Street, near Pierson Road. The victim, a woman, was shot in the back. The shooting was first listed as critical but then brought down to serious.

Just 11 minutes later, there was a fatal shooting on the eastside — about 5 miles away on Davison Road near Franklin. A store clerk shot and killed a would be robber.

At shootings, officers have to rope off scenes, track down witnesses and look for any suspects if they are still in the area. When you have officers being pulled off scenes to go to another, important evidence is lost, Speer said.

"It takes multiple officers to respond to something like that," Speer said.

The City of Pontiac Police Dept is disbanding. This will occur sometime between now and 2012.I understand the Oakland co Sheriff's dept will pick up the slack..Shades of things to come?

After hearing about Pontiac disbanding, I've considered the fact that maybe, just perhaps, Pickell is one of many culprits that have perpetrated these bogus layoffs. If he controls the city, he will the biggest law enforcement agency in Michigan behind only Detroit and MSP. Pickell is like Hitler attempting to gain control of Europe and expand his empire. His deputies have already been spotted poaching in Genesee Township where the board members have illegally laid off their police officers. If that one day happens (which isn't too unrealistic) Pickell will have to hire most of the current Flint Police Officers because 90% of his current deputies are too afraid to patrol in the city.

Pickell has been on tv stating he should not have his officers cut because they need to help fill in the gap created by Flint Police layoffs.

Watch for the paramedic Millage to be impacted as more of pickells paramendics are patrolling Flint. The county threatened to cut Flint's portion of this millage.

Also remember that Flint held that secret meeting with the county and state. No one knows what promises were made in that meeting. Loyd smirks when it is brought up.

I'll bet a cup of Mocha Nut Fudge coffee that the video is never shown on TV in the hope someone will identify the perps.
