The City should have included maps on their web site and flyers. Some people left because they couldn't find parking and many wandered around and finally parked illegally. Also the west entrance off Court was closed and the Court street address was the one given.

We don't have enough officers to answer 911 call, Who is going to watch all 64 or more parks? The park entrances don't have gates and can't be closed.

liquor stores in some neighborhoods are a continuous nuisance. The Liquor Control Commission can respond to some complaints. Very bad stores in the past did not get their licenses renewed unless they made an effort to clean up the premises and stop drug traffic and loitering. Yes they have rights, but is the Cheif asserting their rights trump the rights of the neighborhood they share. Citizens in my area were outraged and very vocal at this comment by the Chief. I could barely hear his entire response.

Only Patrol was on 12 hr shifts. Cops and other units were still 8 hr.

Press conference on Haskell opening was last fall and it's still not open. At a recent meeting, citizens were angry that neither Hurley, nor Haskel was open. Ballenger and some of the other stations are only open sporadically. On this site and in meetings, citizens sometimes express anger at the lack of response to people who volunteer and are never trained. Rhoda Matthews is notorious for not returning calls.

Odette and Grace Streets have shootings on a regular basis. The officers are not dispatched because they are always behind in calls. The Haskell Mini-station is very close but is not available to help.

The council's press conference contradicts Walling's statements. There are contractual employees to be called back before Walling can bring on seasonal workers. has the union signed off on this. Loyd said no temporaries until laid off workers returned.

The jail work release program costs about $90,000 plus a year. The City must pay for the cost of the Deputy who guards them and the inmates lunches.

Some of the Q&A today:

Q. What is being done about the liquor store problem and adjacent park?
A. Chief Lock responded: "We are law enforcement agency. We have to enforce rules. The liquor store has rights also." Does have someone looking into liquor license. Special Ops looking at park activity. Put people in the park.

Q. Why acceptable to ignore 911 calls in North End?
A. Chief Lock responded the issue with 911 is in answering calls. Not ignoring, but getting backed up on calls.

Q. What is being done about shootings in the 5th ward, 300 and 400 block of Odette and 500 and 600 block of Grace(?)?
A. Chief Lock responded: People shot--being investigated. Shooting--they disappear when they see police coming. About anonymity when calling 911 about these incidents--they're working at making it better.

Mayor Walling: City of Flint BLUE BADGE PATROL VOLUNTEER CORPS - creating today to support mini-stations, provide training for volunteers and block clubs. Chief: This group provides the police support. Expanding ministation hours 9AM-9PM, maybe even Saturday and Sunday. (Need more volunteers.)

Q. About TRASH and COMPOST?
A. Mayor Walling responded: A few seasonal workers will be on the job next week. They will continue to monitor week by week.

Q. About using jail inmates.
A. Mayor Walling: Sheriff already uses work detail. Walling doesn't like how they work. Went to Genesee County Land Bank.

Q. Tax Increase?
A. Mayor Walling: Hasn't made up his own mind whether they've done enough. If council has majority to put millage on ballot he won't stand in way. We use every dollar we have as effectively as possible.

Q. Who is responsible for action items?
A. Mayor Walling: Working through an implementation, determining what volunteers can do....etc.

Q. About bringing back firefighters.
A. Chief Lock: There's a process of bringing back firefighters that they have to follow. Have to work with HR Department.

Q. ?
A. Chief Lock: We have tech grant to get new computer equipment and dispatch closest...

Q. Complaint about noise and vibration of windows, loud noise and gunshots.
A. Chief Lock: Keep calling, need neighbors to call.

Q. About Mini-Station Volunteers
A. Chief Lock: Community Policing will continue - 2 officers.... Also, COPs program, 4 on 1st shift, 4 on 2nd shift, help Ward Officer(s).

This "summit" was little more than a Walling for Mayor pep rally. Head cheerleader, Dawn Jones, rambled ad nauseum. The mayor and the chief read off cue cards and avoided the hard questions. The number one item identified in the action sessions was public safety. I guess Walling hasn't lost site of that. In fact, he had made it a priority to cut public safety to dangerous levels. This was a desperate act by an out of touch administration.
