Genesee County Prosecutor David S. Leyton forms candidate committee for Michigan attorney general seat

LeytonGENESEE COUNTY, Michigan — County Prosecutor David S. Leyton is taking steps to enter the race for Michigan attorney general.
Leyton, 56, said today he formed a candidate committee so he can begin to raise funds for a campaign for the seat.
Leyton has more than 20 years experience as a practicing attorney and was elected prosecutor in 2004. Prior to that he was a Flint Township trustee and clerk.
“I’m battle tested. I’m experienced. I’ve done the job,” Leyton said. “I certainly have the experience and I’m ready to hit the ground running and lead the fight against violent crime in the state.”
Leyton said he’s been encouraged by labor union leaders and other party officials to consider a bid for the Democratic nomination. Others considering it include state Sen. Gretchen Whitmer and attorney Richard Bernstein.
Political insider Bill Ballenger said Leyton faces several obstacles, but could be considered a viable candidate for the seat. Leyton will make a strong case that he's the most experienced in the race, he said.
"At this point it’s still wide open,” said Ballenger, editor of Inside Michigan Politics. “Anything could happen.”
Michigan party officials will nominate secretary of state candidates at the August 2010 party conventions. |

| I don't like Mike Cox very much but at least he's not a big time socialist and even more importantly he is a not a socialist candidate that can win. Cox should not look like a dumb*** in a debate against a commie dem like Devos. |

The adopted mother who starved the handicapped child to death got a sentence equal to a recent DUIL that caused death. He plea baargained it down from murder.
About 1969 Joe Giacalone was part of a large criminal organization that ran from Flint, through Youngstown to Pittsburgh. A major undercover prosecutors investisgation had 2 individuals in deep cover. Giacalone and crew lured one to Pittsburgh where he was shot through the head. Two other undercover men were with him and the situation got sticky with the Pittsburgh prosecutor. The Flint prosecutor was able to finally transfer the patient back to Flint where he recovered and testified. The Pittsburgh prosecutor was eventually arrested by the feds for his role in helping organized crime.
During the trial an attempt was made to kill three witnesses on Irish Road near the Willims gun range. Luckily the only injuries they received was facial cuts from the exploding glass of their vehicle. A poor farmer on a ladder fell and broke his leg after hearing the shots.
The second deep undercover agent revealed that a known hitman from Youngstown was arriving to kill the three witnessess. Unable to find them, the order went out to kill prosecutor Leonard. They knew he worked a lot nights and what window was his. Leonard's family was sent away and Leonard stayed in the room next to the hitman with state police listening to the phone conversations. As the hitman left town he told Giacalone and crew they had "one bought and paid for". The investigation was ongoing and more arrests were made.
Sentenced to 60 to 70 years by Judge Freeman, Giacalone was released on a technicality after about 7 years.
He had a succession of dubious window and remodeling companies over the years with a ton of lawsuits. Then he gets the 108 loan for OK Industries on N. Saginaw Street. Under Kurtz it is revealed to be a scam. The collateral for the loans is over appraised and only worth a fraction of the appraised value and the city sometimes took a second position on the collateral. He defaults, the city sues and a criminal case results.
Only Leyton plea bargains the case, saying he wants to prosecute violent criminals. These two will never repay the money ordered by the loan.
Giacalone can be seen running Bubbas used furniture and appliances on Corruna Rd near Ballenger. If it was the same Dan Robins, he had a highly publicized flea market on Clio rd. |

| I was wondering because that's the year my wife was badly beaten. I remember the prosecutors saying there would be no plea bargain unless my wife agreed to it. I've heard that Leyton goes ahead with plea bargains without consulting the victims. |
