On May 23, there was a groundbreaking for a community garden on Seminole St. Dayne Walling promised the organizers, Lynne & Bruce Waybright, that he would attend. He didn't, and neither did anyone from his organization. He also did not attend the town hall meeting later that day at Dupont & Welch about violence in the city, as he had promised. State Senator John Gleason, as promised, attended both events. In early June, the Waybrights had an appointment to meet with Dane. He didn't show, but a representative did, citing an important engagement. The representative assured Lynne, a candidate for 5th ward council, that Dane would attend the monthly meeting she has with residents on June 22 - today. I'm betting he'll blow that off, too. I'm not a Brenda Clack fan; I think it's time for new faces in City government. BUT - making and breaking promises to constituents during a campaign makes me wonder which of his campaign promises he'll break if he's elected.
If he doesn't make the meeting today, as he promised, I'll have to think very carefully about where my vote goes. I was hoping he wasn't just another politician, promising everything & delivering nothing. |

| Dave Dayne HAS the ideas to turn this city around. I have worked on his campaign and he is very short staffed for volunteers. If you want to see him at places,volunteer! DOnt just sit around and complain that he cant come when in all reality, hes probably getting less help than hed hoped for. You cant just wait for other people to make change, you have to! |

Again, Dayne and his limited staff and volunteers can only be so many places at once. I think you might be reading into this too much. Also, was Brenda Clack at any of these events?
This is a city wide campaign, not just in Ward 5. People on the campaign team are trying to develop a ward team for every single ward and are trying to be present at every meeting they are invited too, but if people don't get involved it can be difficult to be productive. The Walling team has two door to door shifts every single day and those take precedence. If you want people from the team to go to these meetings, you should get involved and help by going door to door so senior staff members, including Dayne, can become available to attend these sort of events.
Munnbreslin said it right, get involved and volunteer. Change doesn't come about on its own, especially through a keyboard. |

No, I don't support Clack. I'm talking about Walling promising to be at events, & promising to meet with people at his headquarters, then not showing up. If he doesn't plan on being there, why does he make the promises in the first place? I do understand that sometimes things come up, but if they do, it's only courteous to contact people & let them know why he can't attend.
I'll be at the ministation on ML King & Bishop at 6pm to see if he shows up as he promised Lynne Waybright he would. |

Brenda wasn't invited, as far as I know. I do know that Dane was, and said he'd be there. if hes invited to a meeting or event & says he'll be there, I would expect to see him in attendance. Promising to attend , then not bothering to show up really turns potential voters off.
As far as volunteering, I'm already working with Lynne Waybright on her campaign for the 5th ward council seat. |

I just came from the 5th ward meeting, and Dane WAS there. I was impressed. Reading his literature is one thing, but actually talking to him is another. I guess i won't have to write in Elmer Fudd after all.  |

| SEE! He comes when the resources allow it. And if there is any ward he is giving attention to, its the Fifth ward. He has 2 offices, the main office on Grand Traverse and the FIFTH WARD office on Welch. Dave im glad you went to meet him. Good to see people getting involved in their city. |

See, I think that's how a lot of people tend to be, they are quick to criticize based on his lit and then they meet him and person and it changes their views.
I don't blame people for doing it though, this city has a long history of poor political figures who have continually disappointed their constituents.

Most political literature is heavy on promises and light on details. I'm glad that he came. Definitely a better choice than Elmer Fudd.  |

Haha, this is very true. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to pick the right amount of information for campaign literature. Do you load it down with details for the educated voter? Or do you keep it simple for those who lack a high school or college education? It's hard to find a happy medium. But I think that's why Dayne has tried to work so hard on personal contact with people regardless of educational background. A conversation is the best way to earn someone's vote and support. |

| As far as i know, Lynne Waybright tried to invite her but didn't get any response. Walling was at the Tuesday meeting of block clubs at the Northside ministation, too. I would assume that Brenda Clack has been invited to that meeting, since many attendees are Clack supporters. |

| How about this, maybe neither canidates really care for the city. I have spoken with volunteers and other staff members to try to have some type QandA in some type of forum and all I get is empty promises. |
