The numbers are misleading. I don't think they include people who gave up looking for jobs or part timers that can't find full time work etc. etc. The numbers should also get work. I tried getting the council to repeal some of the anti-business ordinances but we might have to hit 20% for that to happen. I think Flint might be able to function as a low cost center but the council and the mayor are doing a good job at protecting us from "annoying" home businesses.

Wow thats terrible, I believe the number is actually higher. How do they get their #s? just from people who file for unemployment?

What kind of work are you doing now? I know that you said something about preservation, I think. Was that your Major?

well, my job now is actually a seasonal job for the Genesee County Parks - Assistant Crossroads Village Program Coordinator - so I would be getting laid off for a month in Febraury regardless. Unfortunately, they are eliminating the position, so there is nothing for me to get rehired to;

Andi, my masters will be in historic preservation (one more semester! yay!) my job at Crossroads Village really didn't pertain to preservation very much, so this is probably a great opportunity for me. MI SHPO just posted a job for a history specialist in Lansing, so maybe it will work in my favor.

There is another job that just opened up locally that may be of benefit for you, but I think that you may be way, way, way overqualified. Smile

In reading your posts in the past you sound like you are competent. Smile If I remember right your car is paid off, which is a good thing!!! Wink

Thank you! I was truly blessed to be employed by the parks for the last two years, especially in this position for the past year. You can have all the education in the world, but until you get the supervisory experience, it really isn't complete. I am a much stronger person than I was.

That being said, I was ready to move on with my degree anyway, just not so soon! Andi, i'm always open to opportunities, especially local ones.

It's hard for everyone right now, and having a husband who has a good job makes me a lot luckier than single income families facing lay offs. So I'm trying to stay positive.

My ex. just got laid off today. add another to unemployment.

No more child support for us.

Child has outgrown school clothes.

Guess I should find a second job..heat bills are climbing.

Is some warm weather to much to hope for?

Don't see any warm winds coming to Flint soon.

Peace,
RAP
