Well if something does go down hopefully they are prepared to shoot to kill whatever terrorists are acting up unlike the cops in India who hid and did nothing.

If you want the police to be closer, it looks like Homeland Security will be posting military to be seconds away. You won't ever have to consider carrying a cop again.

Not unless they put one on every street corner.
Hey - could I carry a dozen donuts instead? Laughing

The article correctly points out that this has been in the works since 2003. I doubt that Bush is ramping it up now because of a specific anticipated threat. If you're all worried about this, you could all write your Congress Reps and Senate and remind them of the Posse Commitatus (sp?) law.

. . . or you could ask President-elect Obama, who BTW, hasn't publicly weighed in on this topic yet.

Maybe he's too busy setting up his "Civilian Security Force". The one he said would have a budget equal to the military's.

Kevin: Posse Comitatus

The bad part is that the President can declare martial law, not that they would ever be reelected after doing so.

Whatever. I will continue to choose to ignore implausible hypotheticals that, quite frankly, border on the paranoid. That goes for Dave's "citizen security force". The world is full of real things to worry about without worrying about the imaginary.

AND B.O. SAID!!!!!
In Barack Obama's exact words, “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded,” I wonder how B.O. knows that????
