The laws in Michigan are better now but I think about 2 years ago the rule was if an intruder invaded your home you were supposed to run away if possible. Now you can shoot them but I assume you might still have to show "just cause"
I think our liberal laws help aide criminals. Law abiding citizens still have to be careful not to take the law in there own hands. This definately helps protect criminals.
According to most libertarians and a lot of the paleoconservative/Ron Paul Republicans if we had the right to bear arms we should not need permission (license) from the government to carry them. |

(1) In cases in which section 2 of the self-defense act does not apply, the common law of this state applies except that the duty to retreat before using deadly force is not required if an individual is in his or her own dwelling or within the curtilage of that dwelling.
(2) As used in this section, "dwelling" means a structure or shelter that is used permanently or temporarily as a place of abode, including an appurtenant structure attached to that structure or shelter.
