Softball at Whaley Park.

Bowling at The Merry Inn (all 4 lanes).

Fireworks (and concerts and Safetyville) at Kearsley Park.

Fresh ice cream from McDonald Dairy on Lewis Street.

Angelo's.

Luigi's.

Cruise night at Davison Road McDonald's on Saturday night. (I used to talk my mom into taking me up there...and squealing her tires on the way out).

The Fire Department hosing down the baseball diamonds (4:00 am) at the armory in the winter for ice skating.

Where is/was the Merry Inn?

Fortunately we do have a pretty decent quasi international district on the Eastside. I like the Greek Restaurant, Mexican restaurant, Luigi's italian restaurant and the Red Rooster on the other side of Dort is good although a little pricy. The chinese place is O.K. but the other 3 are the best. If they fix up Amos Park on Broadway we should be O.K.

The Merry Inn was on the East side of Franklin between Belle and Jane.

I grew up in the 70's and early 80's on east side on McClure Ave.
I remember going rollerskating at International Skate on Davison Road. Hanging out at the Eastland Mall. Partying at the deadend of Branch Road on Kearsley Lake and in the woods at Potter school. Skipping school at the Kearsley Park parking lot. Hot lunching it at Angelos. Skip days at Richfield Park. Camping out in our backyards. Playing "spud" at Sobey school. Of course, we did a few "other" things I wont mention as we got older and were able to drive. Cruising at Small Mall, watching drag racing (cant remember name of street) but it was up off of North Dort by the water tower.
Those were the days!

Cruising Saginaw Street, North to South; Wallis, Colonel's, A&W, Colonels. Then, A&W by the jail, The Royal by Fisher Body, Varsity on Fenton, A&W at Clio & Pierson. Fill up the gas tank with premium, hand the guy a 5, get change.

Those were the days. Hanging out at Burger King on Clio Road (I know that is not Eastside)then going to the McDonald's on Richfield Rd, drag racing down Clio Road on the bike at over 90 mph. How about Zelley Funeral Home/Ambulance on Franklin Ave the very first funeral home I ever worked in. Wow, that was exciting seeing my first body being embalmed. Doing ambulance calls in the middle of the night then going to Angelo's for breakfast. Funny how when looking back we have such memories.
God I miss those days and a time when Flint was a great city. Now when I visit Angelo's you look out for rats and heaven help you if you are caught on Clio Road at night without a gun. Mad

HAHAHA...I'd forgotten the head shop. Touch Boutique on Detroit Street. Walked down there lots of times. Bought snuff...thought we were high!

Wasn't half the Florida family cops?

Richard....where was the McDonalds on Richfield? Maybe it was before my time. Exciting the see your first body embalmed? Interesting? Some guys remember their first kiss or getting to second base with a chick! I guess if thats what youre into!! LOL
I remember the old A&W on Richfield near Center. My parents used to take use there. I remember the trays hanging on the windows! It was cool! Going to the Miracle Twin Drive-in in Davison. Is that still open?
Just got back from Florida this week. Man, it was nice! Came home to 6 inches of snow and 20 degrees!

McDonald's was on Davison Road, not Richfield.

Miracle Twin is still open...but they closed Showcase West.

I believe that McDonald's is on Richfield Rd. and is still open. It is almost to Center Rd. Funny you mention a person's "1st" in life. I can vividly remember that embalming watching Dave Welch from Welch Funeral Home in Clio doing it. I was 15 and worked there part-time.
As old and dated Zelley's was I loved that place, not as much as Reigle's on Clio Rd, but it was my first experience in the funeral business. Zelley's was torn down a number of years ago.
I live in Florida and wish I had 6 inches of snow so I can ride my sled.

My dad went through Zelley's on Franklin back in 1990. They closed not long after that...tax troubles, as I recall. I remember looking at the diplomas on the walls...from like the 1930's. I kept thinking..."I wonder what's changed in embalming since then!"
