| RENOVATE!!!!! Central's a treasure. tearing it down would ne almost a crime. It's time to stop tearing down history for the sake of "progress". Look at Paul's Pipe Shop downtown for an example of what renovation can be. |

| Upgrade the heating plant, possibly central air, put network drops in every classroom. upgrade the science labs' equipment, etc. |

Adam I think I can answer your question.
Regular upkeep is essential, especially for older buildings. Why not fix the necessary repairs and head off any other problems that could be more expensive down the road, rather than just fix what's broken.
Of course, the word "renovate" is rather vague.
Perhaps a better term is rehabilitate
But in any case, keep Central High School and keep it historically significant |

Flint has a history of tearing down old classical useable unoccupied buildings to make way for new modern soon to be unoccupied buildings. Make the repairs needed to Central and keep it humming along.  |

I agreee but I think Central is more important for it's educational quality and asthetics than any historical significance. I've been in Central and I thought it looked nicer than Davsion High School minus a few minor repairs needed. They have a beautiful library at Flint Central. I think Central is worth saving more for its own merits than history. History is somewhat important but I think most parents would rather their children go to a good school with no hisory than a poor school with a ton of history. |

I guess when I use the word history, I lump architectural history in with that. I have very little clue on who built it or who went to school there. (Except for Edmund G. Love) but I do know that the building is architecturally significant to history and that a building will never ever be built like it again in Flint or probably anywhere.
As for educational quality, i don't know enough about it , but I do believe that the environment in which a student learns affects their ability and creativity.
So yes, architectural history, aesthetics, similar things. |
