"The date and field for Michigan's Jan. 15 presidential primary appeared finally to be set Wednesday as the state Legislature abandoned plans for additional tinkering and elections officials worked at full speed to prepare for a vote now only 48 days away.

The Republicans on the ballot are California U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, Colorado U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, Texas U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, who has withdrawn.

The Democrats on the ballot are New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, Ohio U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel.

Four other Democrats still actively seeking the nomination -- Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson -- removed their names from the Michigan ballot because the Jan. 15 date violates national party rules.

Michigan Democrats confirmed Tuesday evening their commitment to the primary as the method for selecting a nominee, meaning the candidates whose names will not appear have no chance to win Michigan delegates."

In other words democrats have lost their right to vote and have their votes count. Republicans have lost 50% of our voting rights in the primary.

I can't understand WHY they insist on going through with this, knowing it likely invalidates the entire primary. Furthermore, you can't write in the other dem candidates; the ballot becomes invalid if you write in a name that hasn't agreed to be. Whatever.

I'll go to the Republican primary, if at all. Go Ron Paul!

I agree with your Ron Paul choice. I am afraid though that our actual choice may once again be confined to choosing the lessor of two evils. I do find it interesting that Hillary is slip sliding away and that the liberal from Illinois is giving her night sweats. Of course I would never punch a chad next to either of those socialist twits. If they ever perfect cloning I want to see them remake another Ronald Reagan to run for prez . Laughing Laughing Laughing

Unfortunately, the only ones honest enough to deserve my vote aren't frontrunners because they won't repackage themselves to gain the popularity they would need. It's all such a shame.

Re: January 15, 2008 Presidential Primary

Date: December 7, 2007

Enclosed is a short Voter Guide and sample letter to the editor on the primary. Please share and distribute these to help us educate voters about the primary.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Voter Guide On The January 15, 2008
Michigan Democratic Presidential Primary

Voters will vote at their regular polling places between 7 A.M. and 8 P.M.
Voters can vote by absentee ballot if they meet one of the requirements - out of town, age 60 or older, disability, etc.
The deadline to register to vote is 30 days before January 15, 2008 or December 17, 2007.
In order to vote at a polling place, a voter must show a photo ID or sign a statement that they do not have a photo ID with them. Absentee voters do not have to produce a photo ID.
Voters will be asked whether they want a Democratic or Republican ballot, and a record will be made of which ballot they take.
The voter's choice of candidate will be secret as in all public elections.
The Democratic ballot will have 6 choices
Hillary Clinton
Christopher Dodd
Mike Gravel
Dennis Kucinich
Uncommitted
Write-in

A vote for "uncommitted" is a vote to send delegates to the Democratic National Convention who are not committed or pledged to any candidate. Those delegates can vote for any candidate they choose at the Convention.
Supporters of Joe Biden, John Edwards, Barack Obama and Bill Richardson are urged to vote "uncommitted " instead of writing in their candidates' names because write-in votes for those candidates will not be counted.

Paid for by the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee, 606 Townsend Lansing, MI
48933, 517-371-5410 and not authorized by any candidate or candidate committee.

To The Editor:

This letter provides some guidance to voters on the upcoming January 15, 2008 Michigan Democratic Presidential Primary in which we encourage voters to participate.

In many ways, this election will be like any other public election.

However, there will be some different procedures as well.

First, voters will be asked whether they want a Democratic or Republican ballot, and a record will be made of which ballot they take. But the voter's choice of candidate will be secret as in all public elections.

Second, the Democratic ballot will have 6 choices: Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, uncommitted and write-in.

A vote for "uncommitted" is a vote to send delegates to the Democratic National Convention who are not committed or pledged to any candidate. Those delegates can vote for any candidate they choose at the Convention.

Supporters of Joe Biden, John Edwards, Barack Obama and Bill Richardson are urged to vote "uncommitted" instead of writing in their candidates' names because write-in votes for those candidates will not be counted.

I encourage all voters to vote in the Democratic Presidential Primary to be part of the process of ending the George Bush era.

Sincerely,

RAP says...really disenchanted with the Party system.

Sorry, Mark. If you think I'm going to give you a blank check with "uncommittted" you're out of your mind.

Sounds like the "Democratic" party, specifically Brewer, wants to make the decision for us.
