The Genesee County Land Bank owns lots of properties that they don't maintain. Its true, they are just as bad as slum lords who use to own them.

The implementation of any program could almost always use some improvement, especially something new and bold. Still, the structure and charge of the Land Bank is right on. Listen to NPR's story from just yesterday:

Earlier in the year, Kildee was asking folks on streets that had Land Bank houses to please mow them, as the Land Bank didn't have the money. We don't have any on our block, but we do mow 4 lots with empty houses.

The land bank does employ young people through church and community orgs. to maintain these properties.

If the organizations do not keep accurate bookwork or accounting then they will lose funding.

Many properties owned by the land bank have been purchased by homeowners in adjacent properties. They have made community gardens, small corner parks and have truly beautified communities.

It takes a village to make any initiative come to fruition.

What really irritates me is BIG signs in closed businesses touting Williamson. Does the city now own these properties that these signs election signs are placed on? Think about that.

Peace,
RAP

The Land Bank owns a lot of properties that were recently foreclosed, and they can only do so much with so many a year.

From what I can gather, the land bank does what it can.

Blahblah, perhaps you could be proactive and adopt a lot?

I support the vision, but the process is broken.
