But this is more a question of how people go about selling/campaigning/endorsing than it is about how they caste their final vote. Not everyone pays attention to all the political goings-on that impact their lives. Come election time, those people really do look to community leaders they feel represent their interests (like union leaders, which, well. . .you know), have similar interests (other community members), and/or trust. The endorsements made by those groups and individuals become a guide for many voters. That is why it is necessary for the public to know as much as possible about the specific reasons for an endorsement. But I hardly think publicly asking public figures to respond to their public statements on a public forum to be talking behind one's back. Quite the opposite actually. Oh well.
