"Part of the problem, Walling said, is that the city hasn't had a master plan since 1968. He said he would work with others throughout the community to attack all the city's problems simultaneously so progress in one area wouldn't be undercut by decay elsewhere."

I can believe that since the whole country didnt have much of a Master plan back in 68 unless you add in LBJs "great society". Rolling Eyes

there was no need for a master plan in 68. the coffers were
full and expected to stay that way. hell, in those days you could
quit highschool and sign in at buick, chevy, fisher, etc.

Thats very true and those that did were ridiculed as "shop rats". That sure changed when we started making $75,000 , along with paid time off, car discounts and such. All those teachers that used to tell us 'If you dont straighten up and get it together you will wind up in the shop" suddenly realized maybe they should have hired in also. Joe Conroy, an aide to Mayor Don Williamson

who attended the luncheon meeting, said he thought Walling would have been able to give a more accurate speech "maybe if he would have been around here longer."

"He's a fine young man with some absurdity included in his thought process," Conroy said.

He said Walling failed to note the work by Williamson and city staff to save Flint Delphi East, successfully lobby for a new General Motors plant, try to bring a shipping center to the former Buick City site and gain several other new businesses.

Conroy also said ongoing negotiations with a business could bring an additional 500-600 jobs to Buick City.

Mr. Conroy forgot about the truck accessory manufacturing plant and the casino that Mr. Williamson promised.

I do believe though we need a master plan, it will help us go into the future with. A city without a master plan is like a ship without a rudder.

I believe in the late 90s or early 00s, there was either a master plan developed, or a grant for a master plan given to the city of Flint... wonder what happened with that...

yeah master plans are good... and they need to be revised every 5 years. Fenton has an EXCELLENT master plan that was available online a while ago.

Confused About the only thing that comes to mind is getting a bunch of lazy slackers off the state dole and making them go to work. I still remember "impeach Engler now" bumper stickers shortly after he did that. Yes, he was a mean bastard makin all them folks go out and fend for themselves. Since your memory seems better than mine how about pointing out to us the time within the last 40 years that flint and genesee county as well was not controled by a bunch of lib Democraps.

I hope this link works... its from the CS Mott Foundation grant site in 2001 that states something about the "newly completed downtown master plan" but that is just a downtown master plan... should their be an all-inclusive one?
