Some areas are maintaining values better than others. Kearsley held home values the best, dropping by only .09 percent from 2006 through the first three quarters of 2007.

Meanwhile, Flint had the largest decrease: 23 percent.

What's going on? Real estate experts cite a bleak state economy and national housing market, in which existing home sales - depressed by turmoil in credit markets - have fallen for six straight months, the steepest downturn in 16 years. "

If Dayne Walling wins, property values will continue to drop! Mayor Williamson has people feeling good about Flint once again! So please we need more 8 more years of Williamson!

I'm not sure I'd take the over/under at 8 years.

with his obesity, he'll be lucky to see the late 70s.

he needs to lose weight for his health sake.

though he seems to be an ornery enough cuss, he'd probably keep going long after his heart stopped beating.

The Flint community schools are probably more to blame than Williamson. In the article it talks about the impact a school system has on where families want to live. Ryan Eashoo has also said the same thing.
I wouldn't expect housing prices to skyrocket under Walling but hopefully they would at least level out.
With no jobs I imagine we will continue razing houses in the city of Flint for the forseeable future.

The biggest problem causing the drop in property value is the school system. People don't want to send their kids to Flint Schools. As a REALTOR I am faced with that response everyday. I ask

Eashoo: "Where would you like to look at houses?"

Buyer: "Anywhere but Flint!!"

Eashoo: "Why not Flint? Its a great place to live, I actually live downtown Flint and enjoy it"

Buyer: *puzzeled confused look appears on their face* You live in Flint?

Eashoo: Yes, Its all what you make of it. For the most part its very enjoyable!

Buyers: Oh okay, good for you... I just don't want to send my kids to Flint Schools is the main reason!

I have and ran twice in the past, but i was a mere 18 years old then!
I just wish we could all come together and work out a "real plan" to bring
back Flint Schools.

I live in The Grand Traverse District Neighborhood, very near downtown. I was living right on Saginaw street in the heart of downtown before I bought my house. No problems! I loved it.

The last time I was in the downtown Flint area on foot was when I had to go to the Mcree building to dispute a traffic ticket. Before I made it to and from my vehicle to the front door I was set upon 4 different times by folks looking for spare change one of them standing in the entrance to the Mcree building. That scenerio alone would keep the majority of potential downtown visitors away I can imagine how much it improves after sundown.

I believe if you check you will find out they were not cut but simply were not given the expected yearly increase that the Dems feel is mandatory on all their failed social programs. Whenever they are denied such increases they scream cut. And of course the fact still remains who is going to spend an afternoon fending off those looking for a hand out just for the privilage of wandering around downtown Flint looking at a bunch of boarded up buildings. Cant blame those on GWB. By the way I thought the so called mental healthcuts were always Englers fault at the state level which should be easily rectified with our current tax and spend governor who by the way has given up on the Flint area also.
