I can't put my finger on it right now, but I'm confident that $51 billion liability is estimated present value of that obligation. Anytime you wipe out a $51 billion liability (which is on GM's balance sheet) with $36 billion in assets, that's a $15 billion gain.

That will for sure help GM's stock go up and make the UNION more responsible for Health Costs!

What we're seeing with this contract is a loooooooooong overdue market adjustment to decades of artifically inflated wages and benefits to the UAW. (Thank God!) now GM can hopefully get back on the road to managing a profitable company that can compete on a global scale (the balls in the corporation's corner again - let's see what they do with it)

And hopefully we can stop the ever-so-damaging generations of Union mentality that wrongfully convinced people you could thrive without an education. That mentality DESTROYED southeast Michigan.

Doesn't anybody study Milton Freidman anymore? Eventually the market always wins.

Yes. People still study (not worship) Milton Friedman. When the supply of laborers outweighs the demand, the labor market will correct itself . . . in this country and others.
