Does anybody know what heppened to the casino deal? According to this article councilman Ed Taylor and Eric Mays were the ones working on it. Taylor is gone and now Mays is a political outcast.

Now that, sounds like a good idea for the old Buick City area. A couple of Hotels, golf course, race track. Plenty of room there. If they can get grass to grow where the old foundry was. There are a lot of HEAVY METALS in that area.

I'm extremely curious about this deal. We approved the casino but nothing came of it? I thought it was between us and Romulus? I don't recall hearing what happened.

http://www.sootribe.org/News/Latest/Sault-Tribe-Announces-Status-Regarding-Proposed-Casino-in-Flint.html
Has an interesting story. It sounds like Wiliamson was strongly in on this deal. Doesn't he own Sports resorts international? In the article it says the Tribe's board of directors had not seen any actual proposals as of 3/15/05. WIth councilman Taylor gone and Mays an outcast I wonder if anyone is still working on this deal? Wasn't the casino planned to go into Buick City? Why would we have a ballot proposal if we didn't have a location for the casino to go???

Hnestly, I don't remmember if it was passed or not. I don't see a casino as being the "Savior" for Flint. While I doubt having one would hurt the city any.

As far as where to put it. If it is truely for Flint. It needs to be IN FLINT. Not in Mt. Morris.

Hey any ideas on the State of the City address... As who.. was arrested for stealing 1.2 million? Or who made the claims that the mayor stole money? I don't remmember anyone ever accusing him of that? I'm guessing it is another one of his Made Up stories to try to win sympathy by claiming to be the victum of outradgeous claims.

Too bad he won't answer to any of the facts I've posted. I don't make claims without have a sound basis to make them.

The casino vote did pass!!!

Flint Casino Proposal -- precincts reporting (100%)
Yes 7,640 55% (X)
No 6,242 45%

With potentially a couple thousand jobs and 1000's of people coming to Flint I feel a casino could make a difference. I've heard the casino project would have been much more than just a casino. I think there were hotels and restaurants etc going in with it as well.

According to Williamson:
"I think a Flint casino would be the most profitable casino in the world, or anyplace else for that matter," he said. "We could send people's water bills down to $5 or $10 a month. It would be a new Flint area."

Hey this is great.
But didn't he want to build it in Mt. Morris? Hw was that supposed to affect flint and jobs here? Oh I know. We'd apply for grant money, to fund a bus to take employees from Flint to the casino.

How would flint reap any tax advantages for it being built in Mt. Morris? I guess it could come from people being able to get off welfare and unemployment so the city could steal 1 % of your paycheck because you live here and work outside the city.

I just found it. Here are the highlights of a potential casino.

The proposal consists of a shopping mall with 80 stores and a 500-room hotel in the first phase that can be enlarged to 1,500 rooms in the second phase and would include a 200,000 square foot casino to be operated by Sault Ste. Marie Tribe Chippewa of Indians subject to granting of the required Casino Gaming License and permits, acceptance of the proposal submitted to the board of directors of SPRI and to the Chippewa Tribe.

The problem is for this proposal the casino would be going on Sports Resorts land that Williamson owns which I think is outside of Flint. It's no wonder Williamson is working for $1 a year. If he can get this to go through he would be making millions per year. Who cares about a petty mayors salary when you can be running a major casino's hotel. I really think we could use a casino. I would obviously prefer it in Flint but even if it was outside of Flint perhaps we could guarantee that 50% of the workforce come from Flint. Over 50% of Genesee county's work force is in Flint anyways. I wonder if we could get Mount Morris Township to cede the land to Flint? That would make the casino in Flint meaning it would have voter approval. All we would then need is government approval.

Thanks for the compliment Ted. If you want to see some great internet research you should check out my cancer site. http://health.mysearchisover.com/cancer.html Anyways I do owe some credit to Eric Mays for bringing this issue up to me. The way his story goes is that him and former councilman Taylor had a plan in place for the casino to go in Buick City. The casino could temporarily operate in the administration building while the real casino was being built. Having GM in the deal would give some lobbying power with congress to get the land turned over to the Indians. Eric is mad at the mayor for allegedly switching the deal to go on his land outside of Flint once he and Taylor got the deal in place.

Where I come into the picture is I will probably be going against everyone and side with the mayor on this. His 200 acres are in a very ideal location that makes much more sense. I think we should be able to get Mount Morris Township to cede us the land because it would benefit them to give us the land. I think it could be similar to the Detroit Zoo that is not actually in Detroit but run by Detroit. I doubt Mays Taylor or the mayor thought of doing this angle so hopefully I can help put this deal back on track and bring us a couple thousand jobs.

He means those guys, last year who got money from the city to build a plant on the northside of Flint, but then never built. I forgot their names. I think they are in prison or on probation.

Also I believe he wanted to to annex the land in Mt morris or something where he proposed the casino. Honestly, The buick city site isn't a very attractive area. I would think they should buil a casino downtown or some other place, but I suppose a casino could revitilize the buick city are, which is full of blight and factories.

Interesting, I was thinking that the factories will all be gone here real soon. With all he open area. They only need to buy up some more residential areas right by the old buick. That whole area would basically completely removed. New Golf Course, New hotel and convention center.

Down town, I just don't see the space for all that. While it would be great if it was downtown. But it wouldn't hve room there for the golf course or track.

Now annexing Mt morris. Wow, take over another section of Genesse county without actually doing anything to rebuild Flint.

Well, it is interesting.

I thought that's what he was talking about. I wish he would have been a little more explicent.

Yeahm you should rebuild first then expand. Also I read your comments on the state of the city adress, I noticed you siad where is the 500 block at, it is downtown, here is info on it.

code:
With its temporary name of "The 500 Block Project", this development is mixed-use in every sense of the phrase. When finished, this building will house two restaurants, and nightclub, office space, and will even have 8 loft apartments on the top floor.

The building will be created by combining the former PSI building, the Carlton building, and Jewelry World, and adding floors to make all three of them four stories. After reconstruction Jewerly World will have a mostly glass facade and will contain catwalks connecting the other two buildings.

The first floor will be host to a brew pub and a Brazillian steakhouse. A nightclub will be located in the basement of the Carlton. The Blue Collar Gourmet (Redwood Lodge) is the group bringing these new dining spots to the project.

Rowe Incorporated - an engineering and surveying company (among other things) - will occupy the second and third floors for a combined 30,000 square feet of office space. Close to 100 employees of their 135 employees will be moved to the new offices. Their 10-year lease starts in June of 2006.

On the top floor of the complex, the eight apartments ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 sq. ft. will feature 18-foot high ceilings over the living area. Rental prices have not been released to the public as of yet.

Overall, the project is expected to create 100 jobs in addition to the jobs brought by Rowe. Interior demolition started at the beginning of February 2006.

I think Williamson's land is in a better location for a casino. With a casino the number 1-3 things are location, location, location. Would we rather have a casino on annexed land or no casino. From the details of the project it seems are pretty clear. We can have no casino like we have right now or we can try and get a casino and a couple thousand jobs on annexed land. I think we could use a couple jobs. Unless we can find a developer who is willing to go for the Buick City deal than we can keep having no casino.

I'll have to check with Eric Mays to get more details on this. I know he was not happy about not having the Buick City deal. He seemed to act like there was another developer that was going to do the Buick City project. I'll have to ask him to clarify. He seemed t say the mayor did a bait and switch, like he and Taylor set up the Buick City deal and then Williamson tried to steal the project.
