| Dayne doesn't stand a chance. His downtown centric development ideas appeal to about .0001% of the population. Bragging about being a Rhodes scholar will backfire in Flint where the populace voted for an 8th grade dropout. Walling probably has some good ideas, but w/o concentrating on basic neighborhood needs he'll alienate most of city... also in this day and age of bluster and image I don't see any significant numbers of working class and poor whites OR blacks voting for him. Flint is segregated and Dayne's staid honky image will only sell to the 10% of psuedo-intellectual caucazoids who still inhabit the city. |

You're right Crapo. The people of Flint don't deserve somebody as qualified and talented as Dayne. They deserve exactly what they have - a ignoramus mayor and council.....but then again, maybe a miracle will happen and the people of Flint will actually think about what it really takes to make a long term success out of a city and vote for Dayne. |

| You're right Crapo. The people of Flint don't deserve somebody as qualified and talented as Dayne. They deserve exactly what they have - a ignoramus mayor and council.....but then again, maybe a miracle will happen and the people of Flint will actually think about what it really takes to make a long term success out of a city and vote for Dayne. |

| Dayne is sorta qualified. He has experience, but he has never administered anything near the scale of the City of Flint. Sure the guy is talented, nevertheless his focus on downtown coupled with a "vision" that doesn't address immediate "basic" needs will surely fail. Plenty of nice, smart, hard working, caring people have goofy priorities. I think Dayne may be one of those persons. I get the feeling that Dayne think Flint deserves him- he has a pompous air about him. |

As a human being you are entitled to your own opinion...........but your opinion is ridiculous. Dayne is a sincere man who has nothing but the best interest of the city of Flint at heart. He "bleeds" Flint. And for you to call his wife "brass"? Come on........that's the best you could come up with? To use the word "brass" as a derogatory term is to insinuate that somebody is "overly self assured".......................So Carrie is "self-assured"........well more power to her for being a strong woman.
Nice try.............but failed attempt.......................Dayne WILL be the next Mayor of Flint...................and every citizen of Flint will benefit as a result.
Nice try Derrick........now go have lunch with Don, pick up a check......and try again. |

Dayne doesn't stand a chance. His vision is limited to gentrification of downtown and development of colleges- insular institutions that are more interested in $ than community. 99% of Flint's population could care less about sidewalk cafes, condos, and college kids whom if they ever "come", most definately won't stay. Like so many Gen X Flint expats he "bleeds Flint". Thats easy when you have'nt lived here for years. I'm sure he loves his home town, but will he stick around long after he loses in November? Will there be a job for him. I know his little one is going to some FCS elementary (probably not Bunche or Wilkins) but will he want his child to attend a Flint HS? Of course it is his choice, but then again he is now a public figure subject to scrutiny. How can a cultured guy who has lived in DC and Minneapolis enjoy Flint. Of course, image shouldn't matter, but he comes across as sort of arrogant. The second coming of Matt Collier? I hope not at least for his family, not to mention his liver's sake.
The reason Ex-Con Don will win again, despite the mismanagemnet, corruption, and general circus clown behavior is that he has produced results (albeit negligible) for neighborhoods. at this point most Flintoids will take anything. His straight-talkin', salt of the earth image sells to folks of all races. Dayne's image won't sell to anybody outside of the 5% of over-educated downtown/east villagers with Ann Arbor fantasies. Couple that with his ignorance of neighborhood issues and his misguided focus on downtown and you have a loser.
He may be a nice guy, he may care, but he'll still be a loser.
If his platform shifts to address issues like public safety, job creation, and infrastructure maintenance then he has my vote. If he continues to stoke dreams of a "vibrant walkable" downtown and college dorms while neglecting the rest of the city not only will n\he not have my vote, he won't have anybodys vote... well except for the 10 people who subscribe to Uncommon Sense. |
