Topic: Rumors from Flint City Hall

Rumor has it that our City Attorney is in the cafeteria an awful lot? I think maybe it is her second office since there have been reports of confidential material being left behind after she leaves... hmmmm.

Rumor has it that a current employee scored #1 on a promotional test for a position in the Budget Department, and after the interview process is told he has the new position. He takes his wife out that night to celebrate, comes into work the next day and gets a call from HR that there was a mistake and the job was not his. So the position goes to someone from the outside, who happens to be black and happens to be a friend with one of the two people who work in the Budget Department... hmmmm.

Rumor has it that Officer (Captain, Major, Colonel, General, or whatever rank he is now) Dicks was seen at the movies, with his kids, having driven there in his new Criminal Services Bureau vehicle. I guess that is OK since the Mayor said they can use the cars for their personal use... but being drunk as well... hmmmm.

Rumor has it that there will be a new show coming to Channel 17... live from Mercedes Kitchen in City Hall... hmmmm.

Rumor has it that Chucky (Charles Young) received 2 Boxer pups from the Mayor as a birthday gift... each at the cost of $1200? I sure hope this rumor is false, but if not, someone needs to find out what info or pictures Chucky has on the Mayor, because it should be good stuff... hmmmm.

All for now, remember, these are strictly rumors.......

*** The following is NOT a rumor ***

Speaking of the cafeteria... it would be nice to be able to get some food there on a consistent basis. The whole cafeteria scene in City Hall reminds me of the movie Barbershop. I believe it just exists to be a place to hang out, sorta like the Mayor's building across the street from City Hall.

too rich...

and sad.

Like the Who said, "meet the new boss [the donald] the same as the old boss"..........

but will we "WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN"?

doubt it. too many people don't pay attention to the stuff in the shadows...just look for the new roads and circuses to distract the masses.

It was Hitler who said: "Thank god for rulers that the masses don't think"

We all know flint has a rich history but let's face it............right now Flint is the worst city in Michigan and MIchigan is the most economically deprived state in the country. So by extrapolation: Flint is the Shithole of the USA!

It makes me sick because I really do take pride in my hometown?

Why is Flint a shithole? Because there are so many god damned STUPID people in it. If you could test the average IQ of people in the city of Flint, there is no doubt it would rank dead last in the country.

Here's a scary theory. For decades the automobile industry allowed for uneducated and/or intelligently challenged people to make a decent living and provide for a family. Therefore, it was certainly an attractive place for people who didn't want to (underambitious) or couldn't (too stupid) to go to college. So now we're feeling the effects of decades of the breeding of the above mentioned people in Flint. Coupled with the 'brain drain' out of Flint.........95% of students with potential for success leave the city and never come back.......and we're fucked.

I like fish. I also like fishing. But, I think you meant we are "finished" as in kaput.

I agree, the auto industry provided good paying, [eventually well paying] jobs to people that did not require much education. We essentially bought mass production labor, building a high cost item, thus could afford to pay well as long as we built/sold a LOT of vehicles [many times to those same well-paid workers & family].

And eventually, it became a presumed right in auto towns like Flint, that junior could grow up, graduate high school [but not necessary if dad had pull] and go into "the shop"and Sis would marry a shop rat, stay at home & raise the kids and both families would earn a middle-class living.

But the world is a tough place, and eventually competition changed the nature of the market, the products and now the type of workers actually needed to function in the high tech/problem solving, flexible plant floors of the industry today. Here and worldwide.

And so it is, where we used to have minimum expectations of our children [just get through high school, a C- minus average is fine]...now those jobs are going, going,.... gone. We can't afford to pay $20/hour for basic labor when someone will do it for $1.50/hour. We can still afford to pay high wages to people with high skills & talent. Look at Delphi. They are getting out of the grunt low-tech business that can be copied by low skill, low tech products. BUT. They still have markets for their high-end electronic products and going forward, after divesting themselves of the low-tech business, concentrate on that. So they need skilled workers, educated workers, craftsmen, tradesmen, engineers, etc.

So yeah, I agree. Its a total change. Unfortunately poor families, ones where education in the home is not the norm of the adults, is harder still to get instilled in the children. And so the gap becomes even more pronounced.

It is going to take a lot, and maybe its not achievable. But. What is the alternative?

Give up?

Quit?

Then what? Just go home to a dilapadated hovel, mark on a piece of cardboard "Well wurk fur Fud" [sic] and find a spot by the freeway exit stoplight? What's the future in that?

While it might not get better for awhile, and Flint, indeed may lag the state as well as the nation in economic development, it has no choice to struggle, try, and keep on keepin' on.

No choice whatsoever.

As far as our young and brightest, I undestand while they need and want to leave [heck it was 10 degrees this morning at 0800]. Hopefully enough of them stay however, to help turn this place around; and others return back when OPPORTUNITIES develop. Its us to the rest of us, here, to develop those opportunities. Tough, thankless job; but somebody gets stuck with the short straw. Might as well be people who will accept it and buckle-down and put the shoulder to the boulder.

Just my ramblings, with a cup of hot soup on a cold January day [hey at least the sun is out!]

Your ramblings make much sense Biggie.......and you "get it"

"fished" automatically replaces the word f _ c _ ed on this forum.

On a loosly related note: if I had one dying wish.....it would be that everyone in the world be required to read "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

Want world peace? Get rid of religion.

Nice try but the communists fell due to socialism, not atheism.

not sure they were implying that;

of course eliminating "religion" doesn't ensure world peace. To claim such would imply that all world strife and wars are caused by religion and religion alone.

Thats just not true.

There were plenty of amoral, secular leaders who have fomented violence on society, NOT due to religion. And many wars are started due to other factors, usually "national interests"/ territory, etc.

That is NOT to say that our history is also not replete where violence HAS/IS being fomented due to "religion".

Obvious case in point today is the radical Islamists who take the literal interpretation of converting or destroying the infidels at all costs. But "christians" have had their day as well.

My grandfather came to Flint from Tennessee to work at the Buick Foundry, a job that probably contributed to his early death. He could not read or write; my grandmother took care of his paycheck. He had children who graduated from high school, worked skilled trade and became small businessmen, grandchildren who went to college and great-grandchildren who are attorneys and college professors.

Without religion, the world would find something else to fight about. You know, like money, resources, pride... religion is just a cop out.

My mom works in the shop. My grandpa worked in the shop. My great grandpa and grandma worked in the shop. My great great grandpa worked in the shop.

My dad owns a restaurant. My grandpa owned a restaurant. Which served food to shopworkers.

I'm going to college. Getting a master's degree.
Thanks to shop workers and their stomachs.

But you are right. There aren't a lot of jobs for the college educated around here. It's especially tough for those who have pride in the area and want to stay. The biggest change that needs to happen is that Flint needs to be conducive to change. The city needs to be more open to public forums and public opinion, and that might need to encompass the city AND the county.

But that's just my rant. Maybe I'm naive.

That's great, and a very typical Flint story. But my guess is most of the attorneys, college professors and other professionals got the heck out of Dodge (Flint) as soon as they could

Its true. especially for professors. I dunno about lawyers. There seems to be a need around here. And the medical field is apparently booming, with as many new office buildings that are being built on Linden Road. And all my appointments need to be made at least four months in advance.

THIS IS NOT A RUMOR!! THIS IS FACT

Chucky likes to play games with seniors at the senior centers on city time, and he parks the car the Mayor give him to drive wherever he wants, including handicap spots.

Once he even thought he was a doctor

Workers at city hall consider him a joke and dismiss him as nothing more that the Mayor's little lap dog
