2 Mount Morris Township men arrested in Auburn Hills

Good Samaritan helps save attempted carjacking victim at Great Lakes Crossing Outlet Mall

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Two Mount Morris Township men are locked up on one million dollars bond each for allegedly trying to rob and kidnap a woman from Great Lakes Crossing on Saturday.

Police say Edellis Alexander and Isaiah Herron confronted the 47-year-old Lake Orion woman shortly after noon. Officers say one of the men put a gun into the woman's back and pushed her toward her car, telling her to get in.

“Put a gun at her back and tried to force her into her car,” said Lt. Jill McDonnell at the Auburn Hills Police department.

Police say that's when the woman, who was determined not to go with the men, dropped to the ground and began screaming. Officers say the screams attracted the attention of an 18-year-old from Clinton Township who walked towards the men.

"She was hollering out that she was calling police, that she was on the phone with police… yelling for them to stop,” said Lt. McDonnell of the young good Samaritan.

This allowed the woman to escape. She did suffer some injuries in the assault.

Officers say Alexander and Herron fled the scene with the woman's keys and cell phone. They were arrested a short time later without incident. A gun was recovered during the arrest.

Both men have been arraigned on Armed Robbery, Carjacking, Attempt Unlawful Imprisonment, Receiving and Concealing a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm charges. They are locked up in the Oakland County Jail.

Police say the woman did the right thing in dropping to the ground and screaming. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call (248) 370-9444.

Flint robbery victim says $150,000 of jewelry was stolen

by Josh Marshall

Josh Marshall is a reporter for NBC25. He studied Broadcast Journalism at West Virginia University.

FLINT -- A Flint family is searching for what they say is about $150,000 worth of jewelry taken in a weekend robbery.

A Flint Police report confirms the burglary on Parkside Drive. For their protection the family wishes not to be identified the shots used for this story are of the entire neighborhood surrounding the home.

"When we got into the house the whole house had been ransacked," said the victim.

Following an out of town vacation the victims finding their home had been broken into without tripping any alarms.

"When we went into the master room I realized that every piece of my jewelry had been stolen," said the victim.

An estimated $150,000 worth of jewelry is gone.

"There were individual pieces made especially for me. A large emerald, pearl ring, several diamond rings," said the victim.

Also taken, two custom gold Rolex watches and some of the victims most prized possessions.

"My wedding ring, my daughters cross from her grandmother," said the victim.

Neighbors and community watch leaders are aware of the break in but say it's rare for the Woodcroft area.

"It’s a concern for everyone who lives here but the people who were victims of this occurrence are not members of the crime watch,” said Woodcroft Community Watch leader Mary Coe Ryan.

The victim says the $150,000 of jewelry is important to her family; however, more than jewels have been taken.

The victim’s family fears they have lost something more irreplaceable than jewelry, "you never get back the feeling that you are comfortable in your own home. Every night I go to bed now I think are they coming through this window again?"

The victims have hired a private investigator but they say any information leading to the recovery of their jewelry will be rewarded.

FLINT, MI -- A Flint ex-con has been ordered back to prison after authorities discovered a dozen guns inside of his home.

James Edward Isom, 41, was sentenced to serve three years, one month in federal prison in a judgment signed Monday, Dec. 2, by Flint U.S. District Judge Terrence G. Berg after Isom pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Isom was previously convicted in 1996 of attempted aggravated stalking and was sentenced to serve a year in jail.

Berg also ordered that Isom serve three years of supervised release.

Talk about weird. Today I was in the north end and saw a man transporting a large ladder on a grocery cart.

Then I read about the police arresting a guy for a felony warrant after he was caught with a grocery cart full of siding.

However, the 2 men that stole windows from a house on Maryland and then stole a neighbors baby carriage to transport the stolen windows tops that. They were then observed trying to install the windows into a home in the 2200 block of Wyoming.

Schafer Square and River Village were in the news often for violence. There has been a quiet movement to rid these complexes and the high rise apartments of criminal elements. People living there say they appreciate the clean sweep and feel safer.

Detroit has raided two high crime apartment complexes, one twice , and are working to rid these areas of criminals. Maybe we need this in Evergreen Regency or maybe the Flint Housing officials need to do a better job of monitoring.

Plea agreement reached in 2010 killing of Flint security guard

FLINT, MI -- Prosecutors have reached a plea agreement with a man charged in the 2010 killing of a security guard at a Flint apartment complex.

Floyd Gene Perkins, 22, of Flint, pleaded guilty Thursday, Dec. 5, to second-degree murder and felony firearm in the Aug. 14, 2010, killing of John "Andy" Mick at River Village Apartments. Perkins was initially charged with felony murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and felony firearm.

Prosecutors claim Perkins and two other men, Kenya Hyatt and Aaron Williams, fatally shot Mick around 4 a.m. while trying to steal his gun.

The plea agreement calls for Perkins to testify against the two other men. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said authorities do not believe Perkins shot Mick.

Police were able to make an arrest in the case earlier this year after two of the suspects were arrested in connection with a home invasion in Mt. Morris Township, said Flint police Sgt. David Bigelow. Police were able to obtain information that the two may have been involved the fatal shooting and sought charges, he said.

Mick was retired from General Motors before he became a security guard. Those who worked with him said he was friendly and well-liked.

His wife, Sandie Mick, called him a "people person."

Perkins faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced. Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 13

The cases against Hyatt, 20, and Williams, 32, were remanded back to Flint District Court for further preliminary exams.
