VIOLENT CRIME!

Violent crime is prevalent throughou the high intensity drug trafficking areas of Michigan. Follow major highways and transpottion links and it it is easy to determine why these areas are predominent in the drug routing. The high intensity drug trafficking areas in Michigan consist of 6 counties in the eastern Michigan and 4 in Western Michigan.

In eastern Michigan: Genesee, Macomb, Oakland, Saginaw (added in 2009), Washtenaw and Wayne.

In western Michigan: Allegan, kalamazoo, Kent and van Buren.

Together these counties are the major markets for druga. Detroit-Flint-Saginaw and Kalamazoo-Grand rapids serve as the major distribution centers.

Violent crime, including drug related crime is prevalent throughout the high intensity drug trafickingarea but is particularly violent in Detroit, Flint and saginaw. These three cities have violent crime rates higher than the national average and the violent crimein these cities is often related to drug trafficking and drug abuse.

LEOs theorize there are higher rates here because the drug istributors use violence as a means to advance and defend their operations. Also drug users in ths region use violent acts to obtain drugs or money to buy drugs. Cocaine is the drug most often associated with violence.

Violence against drug distributors and customers occur frequently. Criminals target these distributors for their drugs and their money. There are criminals who are said to specialize in this type of robbery after they obtain information about their intended target to decide when the most opportune time and place to steal from them,

These thieves have been known to impersonate Law enforcement and have used vests and similar equipment during these robberies.

Sometimes arranged meets are used to steal drugs, cash and other valuables. These robberies are under reported as the victims don't want to reveal their illegal activities at the tme they were robbed.

There are reports of an increased used of females being used as retail level distributors. customers are thought to be less fearful of a violent robbery against them when buying from a female.

Snyder can bring in all of the State Police he wants, but any reductions in violent incidents will be temporary. That is because he and his appointed managers, Mike Brown and Ed Kurtz, are perpetrating the systemic policies that helped foster disinvestment in the predominantly poor and miniority neighborhoods in Flint.

The state implemented a plan to ease jail overcrowding by paying to house prisoners in other communities. Then the state got tired of paying the bill. The state has reopened the Flint lock up and there is controvery already. When the Flint lock up worked was when it was used in warrant stings and child support stings. Money actually materialized when these people wanted out of jail. However it also stressed the county jail.

The state wanted to close prisons, so they released prisoners early. Sometimes these early releases had tragic results. Prosecutors plea bargain and violent individuals are placed back on the streets. Gun charges were routinely dropped to facillitate these plea deals.

But the core of this violence is the link between concentrated disadvantage in minority communities that precipitates the violence. The Chief Justice Earl Warren Institute of Law and Social Policies at the University of california Berkeley, released a study on April 2, 2011 titled "Consequences of Structural Racism".

In reading this document I was struck by the situations discussed in Andrew Highsmith's dissertion "Demolition means Progress" in which Highsmith discussed in great detail the racial policies of C. S. Mott and others during the development of Flint. Governor Snyder is perpetuating these racial policies.

Gov. Snyder talks Flint crime , emergency manager legislation

FLINT, MI -- As Flint closes out another year with a high homicide rate, Gov. Rick Snyder said crime in the city of Flint continues to be on his radar.
"Flint (crime) is still higher than I would like to see it," he said Thursday in a phone interview.

Snyder said the public safety effort he unveiled in March to target violence in Flint, Pontiac, Saginaw and Detroit is "making a positive difference," but cautioned that it was intended to be a three-year effort
.

Snyder said he would like to see the aspects of the plan, which included reopening the city jail and boosting the number of state troopers in Flint, evaluated periodically.

"How can we get them to work more effectively?" he said. "This is going to be an ongoing thing... I'm going to keep up with it."

Snyder spoke to several media outlets including MLive-Flint Journal this week in a series of year-end interviews about his work in 2012. He also held a media roundtable in Lansing on Friday.

He applauded the passage of right to work, saying his lower approval rating as mentioned in recent reports is a "short-term reaction to a major change."

He said he views right to work as "pro-worker" and says it already has led to inquiries from companies about possibly locating in Michigan. Snyder, however, said it's premature to name those companies.

Snyder said he would likely sign the new emergency manager legislation when it hits his desk, after he does a "careful review" of any changes made by the Legislature before it passed.

The bill gives locally elected officials more options in a financial emergency. It also grants city councils and mayors the ability to remove a manager after 18 months.

"It's a significant improvement," Snyder said of the new bill compared to Public Act 4, which was rejected by voters in November. "There should be more local involvement in the process."

I always figured The Mott Foundation was behind why nothing ever gets actually gets solved. They hand out grants for Police but ignore the fact that we have too many criminals that are allowed to walk the streets. There by just giving the appearance of being benevolent when they are really supporting the screwed up situation that has been created.

High water rates imposed by the Mott Foundation's appointee. Mr Brown and also Mr. Kurtz seems to be an obvious move toward Gentrification. 58 dollars a month just to have your water on. Not even use a drop is ridiculous. The City uses a screwed up accounting process that allows for all money to come out of the general fund. So sometimes the money for water isn't actually being put in the water department's fund.

Oh, BTW Synder is full of crap. As was pointed out as soon as the money from the state dried up. The county went right back to putting these criminals right back out on the street. It's simple. Criminals know! If you commit crime in Flint there will be little or no punishment. It is so obvious that It would almost appear to me that it is being encouraged by the state. When you have the ability to do something and you do nothing. Then your being acquiescent. We all know the county jail is too small for the criminal element we have in the area. The State should step up to the plate and solve this issue. We dont have the tax base to be able to afford to build a new Jail.

and on the same note, The City and County leaders failure to plan at all for a problem they've known about since the DAY the county jail was finished amazes me. No one has even attempted to fix this issue. Makes me wonder why? Flint should have built one itself. Borrowed the money. Then made the jail as large as a prison. Then rented out space to the Out County, State and even the county. We'd been able to pay it off relatively quickly. Other communities have done it. But, as I've always said about Flint. If it has been proven to work somewhere else. Flint will claim it won't work here.
