I have been told the contractor (Burnash Wrecking) filling in the basement holes with dirt has ongoing arguments with the City of Flint Demolition Department... The City of Flint, and many residents wonders why it takes months for a basement hole to be filled in? Why do they not return to put topsoil down and restore the lots that where filled in the winter time? Why is there ten loads of dirt and dump truck loads of rocks sitting on a hole in the 1400 block of Davison rd for months? Why is there gaping holes in the ground all over the city that sit, waiting to get filled in. I remember there where two open basement holes on MLK just north of 5th ave. that last summer the news and people got exited over when they were not filled in after a few weeks. Well guess what? Go to that spot and look directly across the road... Two basement holes that have been sitting for about two months and counting, with occupied houses and kids playing on the edge of the pits. Why is this quality of work accepted? Why does the city pay for bullshit. Grow some balls City of Flint. [/b] |

Third Ward Councilman had issues with Burnash wrecking over the quality of dirt and the large stones. Brown renewed his contract.
Does Flint even have any inspectors to monitor the work any more?
Under the Emergency Manager,, these safety violations continue and politically connected individuals continue to gey contracts and perks.
I believe this is funded with federal money so call David Solis and Brown's cohort Tracy Atkinson as well as Howard Croft their boss. |

It seems like the city would want the basements filled in incase someone fell in and got hurt. Who's liability is it incase someone did fall in and sued? The city or the delinquent contractor. Some of the basement holes have weeds growing waist high in the bottom of the pit and other holes are on the edge of occupied driveways; such as the holes on mlk just north of 5 th ave. The news raised a stink last time the holes where open on mlk, nobody cares anymore? |

Brown cancelled yet another council meeting at which the subject could have been brought up.
Get neighbors and others who object to the holes. Have photos available and hold a press conference. |

WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH BURNASH WHEN I SERVED AS TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR. BURNASH WOULD BACK FILL WITH TRASH AND SKIMP ON THE TOP SOIL. OFTEN THE ROCKS,LIMBS,BUILDING MATERIALS,ETC WOULD WORK THERE WAY TO THE SURFACE AFTER THE JOB WAS COMPLETED. SOUNDS LIE A POORLY WRITTEN CONTRACT TO ME OR A POOR INSPECTION? MY GUESS IS THE CONTRACT. INSPECTORS DID A GOOD JOB FOR ME. |

An interesting note:
While we are discussing the flaws in contracts with Burnash, Mike Brown approved two financial increases to the current contract of Burnash and on the same day! |
