Ryan and RBR thinking alike? God help us! Flint doesn't need a damn casino, why give them welfare trash more places to piss away the little money they have ? So they can back to some case worker about how having a casino in their backyard "enables" them to gamble? Screw that,!

Arts groups to light up Genesee Towers at dusk during this week's downtown ArtWalk

During Friday's Flint ArtWalk -- the gallery crawl that generally draws 2,000-3,000 people downtown -- the night will culminate with a unique show never seen before.

Just as the night falls, Genesee Towers will be lit up in the sky, featuring music, dancers and art inside and all around the building.

And everyone is invited to see this one-of-a-kind sight.

The Flint Public Art project is spearheading the event; an arts movement that originated in New York and has spun off to Flint in hopes to transform the city by taking disused pieces of the city and making them forms of creative expression.

Genesee Towers was chosen as an icon of Flint, owned by the people, and to be extended as public space for this night only.

Stephen Zacks, who heads up the Flint Public Art Project, says the project has gotten tremendous support from organizations and sponsors around the city. They include the mayor's office, Downtown Development Authority, Red Ink Flint, The Creative Alliance, Buckham Gallery, The Fischer Bodies, Flint Youth Theatre, Flint Institute of Arts, UM-Flint and many, many more groups and people -- including Michael Moore, according to Zacks.

"The condemned 19-story Genesee Towers will come to life with music, performances, light installations, video projections and a parade to the river," Zacks said about Friday night's plan.

"A demonstration of the new city emerging downtown, the event marks the beginning of the Flint Public Art Project: A 10-year program of events, installations, performances, social sculptures and new buildings to amplify the regeneration process underway in the city."

Inside Genesee Towers will be performers such as The Fischer Bodies, the Hula Hoops, JonBenet and the Clio Girls.

A video and photography projection will also be show by local artists Eric Hinds, Tara Moreno and New York-based multimedia artist Chris Jordan. Lighting installations, as well as a laser and light installation will be held, illuminating the riverfront.

This event is free and open to the public. The ArtWalk runs 6-9 p.m. Friday downtown Flint and maps of participating venues are available at the Greater Flint Arts Council, 816 S. Saginaw St., Flint.

Genesee Towers is located at 120 First St., at Brush Alley in downtown Flint.

How is this legal? Isn't Genesee Towers condemned? I support re-opening it but it's too bad Kumar wasn't allowed to do that.
