More bullshit in this town, the mayor is losing this and will not be re elected. Mark my words, the nails in the coffin are being hammered shut. We hire all these appointees, some of which are illegal and he expects the public to be okay with 100 public safety officials being layed off?

This is another friend of a friend for the mayor. This mayor rewards people who support him, helped his campaign or simply doesn't speak up against his wrong doings.

In reviewing Eason's campaign records from his mayors run, it was surprising to see that he financed most of his election himself. However he did have a fundraiser and around 20 or so people donated $50 each. On the list was Tracy Atkinson and Jacqueline Foster.

And Jacqueline Foster got an emergency PSA (professional services agreement) that was 5 times higher than the dollar amount limit for such a contract.

These jobs are being posted as permanent jobs when the funding is 3 years from the date announced.

Has anyone noticed how many administrative jobs are being posted for DCED. There is only 4 specialists (fairly new employees). My count is something like 10 to 4 so far,

Since when has a position of Economic Development been allowed to use federal funds?

City of Flint job openings don't affect public safety, city administrator says

FLINT, Michigan — The city's current job openings aren't general fund positions and therefore don't affect public safety, City Administrator Gregory Eason told city council members Monday night.

Councilman Michael Sarginson questioned three open job postings the city has on its Web site in light of 80 police and fire layoffs and about 60 other non-public safety layoffs proposed by the administration.

He said the city should implement a hiring freeze if it's laying off employees.

But Eason told council members that the three economic development positions are not from the general fund, which funds public safety and other general positions.

He said such a hiring freeze in regard to those three positions would endanger federal grants coming to the city. He specifically referred to the $25 million federal stimulus grant the city was awarded for blight elimination and neighborhood stabilization.

"(It would) threaten a $25-million grant because we don't have adequate staffing," Eason said. "It has nothing to do with the general fund, which public safety comes out of. I don't want us to make a huge mistake by threatening a lot of money coming to this city."

Eason, bring your head back into the sunlight and wipe the s**t out of your eyes and ears. The DCED is only inadequately staffed because you and Walling keep putting UNQUALIFIED people into positions there. You have a core group of qualified people that are left from previous asiministrations that you are hellbent on removing. Yet you keep adding people that have no business in those positions. If you want interns, contact the Universities and find somebody who at least has some formal training that will work for little or no money as part of their education. Instead, you pay high salaries to people that have no clue as to what they are doing. This city does not have the resources or time to wait for a supervisor or higher level employee to be trained to do these jobs. If you really feel that we need those positions, post them and take applications from people who are qualified. OH THAT'S RIGHT, THEY WOULDN'T BE THERE TO COVER YOU A*S! But hey, they would be more capable of getting the job done, unlike the people you have been hiring.

Remember the saying, "If you can't baffle them with Brilliance, befuddle them with Bul*sh*t!" Well the citzens of Flint are in chest waders and I am afraid we are going to drown in a sea of BS!

Well put Concerned Citizen! Walling has done a fine job doing nothing correct since he has got into office. Eason, from the postings I read here, is arrogant. Which would be tolerable if he delivered the goods, but he doesn't seem to be doing. And Walling does not to be as forth coming to the public as I had hoped we would be. And people criticize me for being too pessimistic about government, I would say at the level of criticism I have leveled in the past I was actually being optimistic. I got told I was over reacting to Walling's appointments , that I should give him some time to play out his plans. I can see that I was more on target with my pronoucements of doom and gloom than some would credit me for. Walling is not acting in the people of Flint's best interests from what I have seen , and I did ease back on my criticism of his adminstration. Perhaps the old adge of all things being otherwise equal it would be better to be ruled by the first ten names out of the phone book may be a hint on how we should next recruit our next batch of "leaders" .

Elias12,

You are correct and we need to keep the pressure on Walling. We need to make it so uncomfortable for him that he starts following the law and listening to the citizens of Flint.

I didn't think tyrants were supposed to be possible in a democratic society. Brother, I was SOOOOOOO wrong!

Derrick1965,

You quote me talking about Walling and then tell me to leave Wendy Johnson alone?! Keep paying attention, maybe you'll catch up with the rest of us in a week or two.

But since you brought it up, look at my posting on page one of this thread, and tell me that she is doing good things in this community. I know several people in the ever growing "Metawanenee Hill Neighborhood Association" area that quit going to those meetings because they were treated as grunts to do what SHE wanted done. She has run those meetings without having elections for officers or haveing any accountability for the money.

If you were being facecious, then I apologize. But if you were serious, I challenge you to name three good things that she has done in her neighborhood!

OK, I'm still waiting.
