The problem with the Hurley mini-station is that it is located very near the southern edge of the ward. That is why many 5th ward residents favor the location at Haskell, although it is 2nd ward. The area north and east of Mackin and Dupont is a hotspot now . Abandoned houses, arsons, metal thefts, girls fighting, gun shots and shootings are commonplace.
It is amazing more people haven't been shot as the community has reported numerous incidents of groups shooting at one another with no injuries reported. They may be the gangs who can't shoot straight, but that don't save the innocent from their wayward shots.
The Haskell mini-station isn't up and running yet as it needs more volunteers.
I don't know where the money is coming from, but keep Haskell open.

I'd like to see it operating at times other than the publicized 9am to 3pm.

Aren't the mini stations going to be staffed with volunteers? It might be hard to get late night volunteers every day.

volunteers have yet to be trained so the station is technically not open.

Webs, do you have any information on what the program is for getting these ministations staffed with volunteers? We've had a list of volunteers waiting to have background checks completed since summer and they're not being moved. Who is in charge of getting volunteers approved and ministations staffed? I am under the impression admin is all talk and no action because they've been talking about this since prior to the election. Prior to the election they made it sound as if there were no ministations open but there were, and are.

I have driven by the ministation at Haskill several times and no one has been there. There is now a sign up saying no open gym until the 27th. Perhaps Walling's press conference was premature.

I am not going to repeat the allegations, but I am assured he is gone.

I believe they ran into a union issue.

which union? Police or maintenance?
Officer Carpenter is said to have done a great job cleaning up Haskill and the Ballenger Rd. mini-stations using stimulus funded workers. Tina Conley ran into union issues when she painted senior centers, mopped floors, and stripped floors at the centers.
No volunteers have been trained to operate the mini-station. Maybe no one volunteered.

Do you just call the mini station and ask to volenteer? The one on ballenger always looks empty. I might just run up to haskill and see.
