Topic: Cleaning up turns into littering

I was driving along 5th Ave. between Grand Traverse & Dupont today. Ahead of me was a white SUV with yellow flashing lights on top. The SUV would stop at utility poles & a young man would jump out & pull flyers of various types off the poles. Very nice to see, EXCEPT - he dropped over 1/2 of what he was pulling off the poles on the ground! I followed him for a while, and when I passed him i saw the sign on the side of the vehicle: Citizens Nuisance Task Force. While I appreciate the effort, maybe next time they could put the stuff in a trash bag instead of just tossing it on the ground.

Well I hope you took down the plate number and report it. It will continue unless a complaint is made to somebody who can do something about it. Any vehicle with yellow lights and a sign must have an organization of responsibility with rules to comply with, not to mention city ordinance violation for litter and trash. Citizens Nuisance Task Force used to be about painting over graffiti. Some old numbers for that are: report to hotline 767-9696 Keep Genesee County Beautiful; or Graffiti hurts Flint Hotline 767-2683.

Or ask who to report it to at the new Neighborhood Hotline (Neighborhood Enforcement Team) 237-6812 started a couple weeks ago and reported on WJRT and in the Flint Journal.

Mr. Starr,

I forwarded your message to friends at CNTF. I have never known them to have any type of lights on vehicles. I have known them to do thousands of hours of volunteer works.

We'll see what happened.

It may be they had a youth doing community service hours with them and the driver did not notice the "youth" doing shoddy work.

I thank you for noticing and bringing this to attention.

Please KNOW- CNTF (Citizens Nuisance Task Force) has taken TONS of garbage out of communities with the help of local community groups.

Peace,
Rap

It was about 1;15 pm, if that helps. Also, there was a guy from the CNTF that came to meetings at the mini station on King & Bishop saying they would take care of the gang & drug graffiti on the side of the store across from the station. it never happened.

Note - we have a couple neighbors that go up & down our block every morning & pick up whatever got tossed out of cars overnight. It keeps the block looking good & we don't have to wait for someone else to do it for us.

Mr. Starr,

The driver says the youth gathered two garbage bags of flyers and did not notice him dropping anything. I had also emailed Dale Scanlon so he is aware of the problem.

Dale has personally painted over tons of graffiti. The plan usually is to supply the community group with paint etc. so they can take care of each area.

CNTF used to organize and shedule cleanups all of the city with community groups. They scheduled with the city garbage trucks to to do pick ups with city drivers and neighborhood volunteers to do the loading. Politics put a stop to those good works.

Peace,
RAP
