Is there actually a "Citywide Crime Watch" by that name, or are you referring to all the crime watch groups across the city? I'll let those in our watch know about it and ask them to pass the word. Thanks for the info.

Published phone number for the Citizens Service Bureau Hotline is 237-6979.

Yes, the City Wide Crime Watch meets quarterly it is supposed to be representatives from all crime watches across the city sharing information and ideas. We usually have a guest speaker... like the fire chief right
before devils night to coordinate efforts or Lt. McLeod etc.

The mailing lists for crime watches is kind of outdated. Many elders in area crime watches are not internet savvy. Would really like to revitalize this initiative. Yes, please share information. Thank you!

Ted, should be able to bring crime mapping info to meeting if you are interested.

Peace,
RAP

I've offered to set them up a website. Only I personally feel the city should do it. Everything, from the Crime mapping and contacts should be available online.

I shouldn't be so derogatory. Only I know more about what is going on with this latest sham, than I can really say pubic ally. Mostly because it's just hearsay. Only it comes from reputable people.

I'm just frustrated at this latest cotton candy sale. Lot's of fluffy sweat tasting stuff that won't fill you up, and only make you sick when you get too much. I've just become tired of getting too much!

For those that don't know, Caswell is a Williamson crony. He tried to save the officers at the last City wide meeting, only it was too late. After the last fiasco the officer have been groomed. The have rehearsed responses to certain questions and will be much more polished than last time. Also I am certain that they will have people planted in the audience to call on that will make the meeting run smoother as they ask the "soft" questions. Unfortunately I am unable to attend tonight. I did call their number after the last meeting and attempted to set up a meeting with the bureau to come to my home and answer my questions. I received no response. I did call the "major" on his personal cell phone and asked him if he was going to respond to me and set up a meeting. He stated that he was "thinking about it". I asked him to additonal times about setting up a meeting and have yet to get a response. Apparently I'll have to contact the chief's office, the mayors officer(this is the chief's office I think), and the ombudsman to find out why I am not getting any service from the bureau.

Sorry for all the typos in the last post. I was trying to do two things at once and didn't preview my post. I hope you got my meaning.

Hey Bossman I think you should call 911 to see if any of the inspectors could come to your house. I wonder if they would answer that radio call.

Caswell IS NOT A WILLIAMSON CRONY! He has stepped up on the Citywide Crime watch and spent his own cash for mailings to crime watch groups for the last year or so.

He is attempting to keep this citywide crime watch endeavor going despite his personal political views. He was contacted by these "new officers" to attend his citywide meeting. He could not tell them NO because he did not wish to taint the crime watch meeting with his personal opinion or political views.

He would gladly turn the City wide crime watch chair over to another willing to take on that responsibility.

It would be nice if Citywide Crime watch meetings would be so well attended if politics were not in play. When I left 67 people had signed in. Perhaps 80 in attendance. VS the usual 12 or so that attend.

Expect many to be upset he set the agenda so as to diffuse political rabble-rousing. SMILE! Rolling Eyes

I am not willing to step up to chair, as a citizen- I would have explained the need for crime watch group training to make detailed complaints of better use to officers, in the evenings at quadrant areas; the need for citizens to be able to make anonymous complaints and the barriers that exist to that end.

I instead handed my complaints in the form of a HOT TIP sheet directly to Lt. McLeod. He is directly over the COPS/CATT squad. Darn bet he will follow up!

I had to leave early..missed the audience comment portion.

Would appreciate notes of public comment???? Please!

Peace,
RAP

David Caswell asked what services citizens need from the police. He listed the responses and will type them up and submit them. Both items RAP mentioned were covered, i.e., mini-station volunteers need training. Anonymous complaints were also mentioned but I'm not sure how they were listed, the point was made that citizens need to be able to communicate with the officers and develop a trust, and to know who to report crime to without fear of retaliation. Update FPD website to list current location and contact information for mini-stations, with map to show area covered. Reopening the jail. Paint copper pipe to deter theft. Return police dogs. Return Officer Green. Mini-station officers stay in their assigned community (as opposed to being sent across town out of their area). Code enforcement. The list was long.

I was impressed with the order, agenda, and large body of attendance at this Citywide Crime Watch meeting. It shows the interest and concern of the community, and I hope the council members and police officers present will take the information and work with it to the advantage of all. Aside from the TV stations I'm not sure who was doing filming. There were many more officers present than the Citizens Service Bureau Major and Inspectors, and they were ready for questions after the meeting. Scott Kincaid, Sheldon Neeley and Sandy Hill were there, as was Terry Bankert and Alex Harris. Someone said Carolyn Sims was there but had to leave early.

Tyrone Croom, Chairperson of the City Wide Crime Task Force, spoke about the findings of the task force. Handouts included the meeting Agenda, Homicide Rate for the City of Flint for the last five years (compared to record high of 61 in 1986), the 11/27/06 General Recommendations of the Citizens' Task Force on Crime and Violence, and the 2006 Flint Police Department Command Structure flow chart showing the addition of the Citizens Service Bureau.

Thank You so much for a wonderful report. I will pass it on to Mr. C. He may very well hear negative comments and this kind report will make a positive difference.

Please also note: Gun locks were supplied by Sheriffs Dept., 2007 calendars from Flint Eastside Weed and Seed, Brochures with contact numbers for police dept. and mini station and area resourses. How to start a community group from the United Way and Crime Watch information . Hot Spot tip sheets(project trust) to make anonymous police reports. City information on garbage pick-up and code enforcement.

Really tried to provide needed information to the community!

Hopefully despite politics we can reach out to the community to give them tools to enhance quality of life.

Peace and thanks,
