Liquidation sale starts this weekend at Rocky’s Great Outdoors.

Thank You for 50+ Years, Rocky’s

After more than half a century as a staple along South Saginaw Street, Rocky’s Great Outdoors is saying goodbye.

Before the lights go out for the final time, the longtime Burton business is holding a liquidation sale this weekend, giving customers a last chance to walk through a store that has been part of daily life for generations.

Founded in 1971, Rocky’s Great Outdoors started as a motorcycle-focused shop before expanding over the years into outdoor gear, workwear, boots, camping equipment, and more. For generations of Genesee County residents, Rocky’s was a go-to stop for everything from riding gear to outdoor essentials.

Over the years, the business has also been involved in the local community in various ways, supporting causes and contributing where it could. While details were not spelled out in the closing announcement, many customers have taken to social media to share memories and appreciation for the store’s presence in Burton.

The store did not give a detailed explanation for the closure, but indicated that ongoing financial troubles played a role in the decision to close.

Rocky’s posted a heartfelt message thanking customers for their loyalty and support over the years, calling the decision to close a difficult one. Message: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1436148841856315&set=a.485191720285370

The liquidation sale is expected to draw strong interest, as locals look to both take advantage of discounts and say goodbye to a familiar business that has been part of the Burton landscape for more than 50 years.

Further details on how long the sale will last or the exact closing date have not yet been announced.
