Gardner White Is Moving Into Former Value City Location in Flint Township

Gardner White Furniture & Mattress is opening a new store in Flint Township at the former Value City Furniture site on Miller Road, confirming that the longtime Value City location is closing and the building is being reused rather than left vacant. The store is expected to open this spring, and it is part of a broader expansion that will bring multiple new Gardner White locations to Michigan cities including Lansing, Grand Rapids, Novi, and Traverse City.

The Flint Township store will be located at the corner of Miller Road and Linden Road, in the same building that previously housed Value City Furniture and, before that, Art Van. Gardner White has confirmed it is taking over several former Value City and American Signature locations as those chains wind down operations, allowing the company to expand without new construction.

According to Gardner White, the Flint Township location will offer the same full lineup found at its other stores, including living room, dining room, bedroom, and mattress selections, along with same-day and nighttime delivery options. The company says it has been in business for more than a century and is positioning this expansion to meet demand in high-traffic retail corridors.

An exact opening date has not been announced, but the Flint Township store is expected to open sometime this spring once interior renovations and branding changes are completed.

Is reusing vacant big-box buildings like this a smart move for Flint Township’s retail corridor, or would you rather see something entirely different go into these spaces?
