Flint SOUP Is One of the Easiest Ways to Get Your Business in Front of the Right People

If you are working on a business idea, a creative project, or something that could help the community, Flint SOUP is one of the few places in Flint where your idea is the main focus for the night. Flint SOUP is a quarterly dinner where local creators and entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to the community, the room votes, and one project walks away with a community-funded microgrant raised that same evening.

Flint SOUP started in 2012 and is a project of United Way of Genesee County. Since then, it has helped run more than 30 pitch competitions in Flint and Genesee County. The goal is simple. Give local people a stage, give the community a vote, and turn support into real startup money.

What makes Flint SOUP different is that it is not just about funding. It is about visibility and connections. When you pitch at Flint SOUP, you are putting your idea in front of people who care enough to show up, listen, ask questions, and vote. That room often includes other business owners, organizers, nonprofit leaders, and residents who want to help local ideas move forward.

Even if you do not win the microgrant, you still win exposure. People hear your story. People remember your name. People talk to you after the pitches. That kind of face-to-face networking is hard to replace with ads or social media posts.

Flint SOUP was also built to strengthen community involvement after the water crisis, when rebuilding trust and participation mattered just as much as rebuilding infrastructure. Every dinner is a reminder that Flint residents can support each other directly and decide together which ideas they want to see grow.

If you have ever said you just need the right people to hear your idea, Flint SOUP is designed for exactly that. To learn how to attend, pitch, or stay updated on upcoming events, follow Flint SOUP directly on Facebook at:
