Burger King Changed the Whopper and Customers Are Already Complaining

Burger King says it changed the Whopper after years of customer complaints about squashed burgers, inconsistent quality, and poor presentation, rolling out what it calls the first major update to its flagship sandwich in nearly a decade, but customers say the changes miss the real problem. Burger King says the goal was to improve how the Whopper holds up during takeout and delivery, even as online complaints about size and value continue.

The company confirms the Whopper is now served in a box instead of a wrapper, uses a firmer sesame seed bun, and includes an updated mayonnaise. Burger King insists the beef patty has not changed and remains a quarter pound before cooking, with the same toppings and flame grilled beef it has always used.

Customers are pushing back almost immediately. On Reddit and X, many say the Whopper feels smaller than it did years ago, with patties that no longer reach the edge of the bun and portions that look closer to what they remember as a Whopper Jr. Others say the issue is inconsistency, claiming some locations serve a full looking burger while others deliver thin patties and uneven ingredient portions.

Those complaints are amplified by a federal class action lawsuit accusing Burger King of exaggerating burger size in advertising. While the company denies shrinking the Whopper, customers often point to the lawsuit as proof that what is shown in ads does not match what ends up in the box.

With Burger King focusing on packaging and presentation while customers continue to complain about size, value, and consistency, did the company fix the Whopper people were upset about or just change how it looks when it leaves the counter?
