To the faithful and supportive, do you hear that sucking sound? It's your hard earned donations to the church going to buy lavish $million dollar homes, in Vegas, the Bahamas and other exotic places around the world while the lest of us suffer. These pimps of the Pulpit also buy expensive cars, boats. The list is endless. Is this God's will or just plain old American greed by the leaders of many churches. What is your opinion?

I'm afraid there are "churches" out there that the pastor uses as a cash cow.

The problem with this is that this is the Protestant Work Ethic that has morphed into materialism.

Jesus rode in on a donkey into Jerusalem and these guys are preaching in a Rolls? Go figure.

My issue is that you have "pastors" that have churches in the poorest areas of the City that go home at night to half-million dollar homes in the suburbs. Maybe they could cut the salary a bit and help some of the folks that are living next door to their church.

Instead of every church in town having a million dollar gymnasium.. why not band together and open a real grocery store in the north-end. Employee some folks. Offer fresh food.

Oh, No, they are not racially motivated, whatsoever. If anyone throws that "card" out there they are not playing with a full deck.

Here is an article about it listing the "pastors".

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-11-07-televangelist-probe_N.htm

Some are women, some are white, some are black, etc.

This is called the Prosperity Gospel......sigh.

Another cheer for Josh!!!
A pastor doesn't "need" a mansion. He doesn't "need" a Mercedes or Rolls.
Truthfully, a Church doesn't need a fancy building. people in need should be the priority.

People in "need"? The last time I looked the original reason (and should be only one) for churches is to pray and talk to God. Not pray to God for food and money.

years ago the Free Press did a series on the issue of the apparent ostentatious lifestyle of high profile Detroit pastors, they defended themselves quite forthrightly.

basically IIRC, they said their congregations did not begrudge them their handsome homes and BMW/Mercedes etc...in fact they supported them.

They wanted to know their leaders were "capable" industrious, successful people, and these were the manifestations of that industry and capability.

Thus, these riches were a like of badge of honor, certainly accomplishment.

These guys were to a man, unapologetic. And there were racial overtones to their perspective. Their people being downtrodden, shut out of the mainstream of realizing the American dream for so long, appreciated those of their kind that did achieve success. Thus these people were not to be excoriated, but exalted.

Who doesn't want their leader to be perceived by the public at large as a success, and a capable leader. These trappings were what American society expected of successful leaders. There are few Mother Theresa types in government, commerce, industry or western organized religion. I can't speak on other relgions.

thats my recollection anyway.

I agree with 110% Josh, do we really know pastors in flint that represent poor areas that live in the suburbs???
