The MI FairTax will:

Replace Michigan’s current complex and unfair
tax system with a simple retail sales tax.

Eliminate current sales tax, personal income tax,
Single Business Tax, Personal Property Tax, 6
mill State Education Tax on business and sales
tax on all business purchases and replace them
all with a simple retail sales tax.

Save MI taxpayers billions of dollars now being
wasted in complying with the current tax code.

Significantly lower the cost of goods & services
produced in Michigan by removing the cost of
business taxes and tax compliance costs that
are hidden in today’s prices.

Make Michigan products more competitive with
foreign products and return jobs to Michigan.

Provide a more stable revenue source and raise
the same amount of money for Michigan
government with the imposition of a fair/no
loophole retail sales tax on only new goods and
services with an effective tax rate of 0 - 9.5%.

Return to MI families 100% of the sales tax up to
the poverty level by monthly “prebate” payments
to all Michigan citizens’ households. No MI
citizen will pay taxes on the necessities of life.

I've been trying to read the new Michigan Business Tax (all 168 pages of it). I think I'm developing A.D.D. in my old age. Anyway, after a week of perusing through the first 3 pages, it looks an awful lot like the SBT. While in theory I am very much in favor of true tax reform (even though Biggie's wife and myself could be financially burdened by the lack of tax preparation fees), I just don't see it happening in my lifetime.

hehehe I also said "s crap" hehehehe

I have to agree, it won't happen in my lifetime. It too hard to overcome the "I hate the current system, but I fear it less than the unknown of a new system"

Also, do you see all those low income people coming in and getting $1,000's of refund more than they paid in taxes [due to EIC, dependent credit etc]...no way do they want the revenue spigot turned off. So it [Fair Tax] will be cast as oppressive to poor, minorities etc.

It will be tarred and feathered, like no tomorrow.
