Eric Mays said he'll file a court action Monday to stop the noon swearing in of several winning City Council candidates over alleged campaign finance violations by Mayor Don Williamson.

Mays said he's seeking an injunction as part of an effort to overturn Tuesday's election of Williamson-backed candidates Jackie Foster Poplar in the 2nd Ward, Kerry Nelson in the 3rd and Sandy Hill in the 4th. Mays was the campaign manager for 2nd Ward Councilman Ed Taylor, who lost to Poplar.

A Williamson aide has called any court action to challenge the results baseless. Williamson has consistently denied any wrongdoing since defeated 4th Ward Councilman Joshua Freeman recently filed complaints with the county and state over the mayor's campaign. Freeman's complaints are pending.
During the election, the mayor had roving billboards driven around the city that proclaimed his endorsement, gave money to candidates, and paid for literature.

Mays alleges some of the help exceeded legal limits - a position the county elections supervisor contradicts.
