Author    Post   Steve Myers Site Admin Mayor Don Williamson announced Thursday three new proposals to cut weeds and control rats, knock down dangerous houses and a sidewalk repair program. The $1.5-million plan, which requires City Council approval, would funnel $500,000 to each area and comes from an estimated surplus from the 2004-05 budget year that ended June 30. Williamson said the sidewalk program would be property-owner driven in which the city and owner would pay half of the costs. He promised to make the costs more affordable than in the past. "I urge you to call your city council person to support this request," Williamson said during a news conference Thursday. Council members have been consistently calling for administration proposals to address these issues, especially the problem of high weeds in recent weeks. Fourth Ward Councilman Joshua Freeman said Thursday he welcomes the weed proposal, but has concerns about spending more surplus money until an audit is completed.
